You'd think that with how technically minded Gentoo Linux is, what with compiling everything from source after numerous fine-grained steps and optimizations, that there would be a comprehensive guide for getting it running on ARM devices in the year 2026.

@itsfoss I've been using dual boot of #ubuntu and #gentoolinux for a year in my #slimbook . (Sharing firefox and thunderbird profiles, nextcloud and zotero between installations)
I hadn't used gentoo since I was twenty and I was afraid :blobugh:
And now I have just removed ubuntu! Full time gentoo now :toot:

@itsfoss its an openrc startup, so #gentoolinux or another distro packaging openrc and no systemd ;-)
Tried to emerge Trinity DE on my Gentoo VM and it was complaining about mask stuffs and instead of unmasking it properly (LIKE IT SAID ON THE WIKI PAGE I WAS LITERALLY READING) I unmasked ~amd64 in make.conf now I gotta wait for 135 packages from unstable to compile :bunhdcry: . I need to watch videos on Gentoo and read the man pages lol, at least this is a VM... Gentoo is still pretty foreign as a Debian user so I guess it makes sense, but clearly I need to hone my Powers of Observation as well...
#XLibre third-party packages for #GentooLinux are available for ~amd64 and ~arm64 at https://github.com/X11Libre/ports-gentoo. Actually they've been since Jun 20, but mostly as live ebuilds. I've installed Gentoo in a VM and uh...
It's really quite something lol. I'm too used to APT that Portage kinda messes with my muscle memory. Plus it's a whole lot of waiting and messing around with flags it seems? I don't think Arch deserves the "hard to install" label when compared with Gentoo tbh.. I didn't bother compiling the dist kernel and used the bin instead cause I've not got the best computer.

Ok I got a working gentoo install with x11 up and running. Compiling Firefox and it's taking longer to compile than the Linux kernel.

AuDHD and depression occupy my mind and won't leave even when I ask nicely. I have done programming in systems dev, and am into TTRPGs, drawing, and storytelling. Tone indicators are very nice (/gen).
I run Gentoo, Zsh, NeoVim, Niri, and Kitty. They're all very nice projects and make using a computer rather pleasant (minus the fact I have an Nvidia GPU).
I am certified Based™️ by the World Gender Anarchist Society, and I will be stealing all of the estrogen from cis women (/sarc).
