Question for my #Gamestudies bubble here: Do your current students also know basically nothing about #Gamergate?
Was thinking about two things: one about how the Epstein files reveal that 4chan is a part of Epstein's cannibal pedophile billionaire influence circle, which made me think that #GamerGate is most likely also a part of the cannibal pedophile billionaire project; and about the recent mass consolidation of video game culture into the hands of VC capitalists; I don't think that games falling into the hands of ultra billionaires is "just business" when you think that all online culture projects in the 2000s seen to be psyops by the most influential people in the world. Something stranger is going on with the 50 000 layoffs.
Anyhooooow I wish us all a very "let's have EU based online payment options that don't stop servicing Queer game designers" and a "how about a new online game store that isn't based in an authoritarian empire that's threatening to invade a new country every week" etc and so on.

Truly, can we talk about how the erosion of law of nations, of #NATO, of multiple democracies as we see it today ties back to 2014 #Gamergate.
And that's a conversation so many are not ready to have for lack of knowledge or acknowledgement.

A gamergate (/ˈɡæmərˌɡeɪt/) is a mated worker ant that is able to reproduce sexually, i.e. lay fertilized eggs that will develop as females. Gamergates are restricted to taxa where the workers have a functional sperm reservoir ('spermatheca'). In various species, gamergates reproduce in addition to winged queens (usually upon the death of the original foundress), while in other species the queen caste has been completely replaced by gamergates. In gamergate species, all workers in a colony have similar reproductive potentials, but as a result of physical interactions, a dominance hierarchy is formed and only one or a few top-ranking workers can mate (usually with foreign males) and produce eggs. Subsequently however, aggression is no longer needed as gamergates secrete chemical signals that inform the other workers of their reproductive status in the colony.
Depending on the species, there can be one gamergate per colony (monogyny) or several gamergates (polygyny). Most gamergate species have colonies with a few hundred or fewer workers."
