Ok, some progress... of sorts.
Aka, my further adventures with the #GPD Win Max 2.
Last time, our intrepid adventurer was installing #Fedora #linux as he'd been having issues. Well, that all went south, I had the gall to disconnect an HDMI monitor whilst updates were downloading... and that caused the laptop to lock up solid. I had to hard power off... which then totally broke my Fedora install... the repo files were all present and correct, but KDE Discover wouldn't see any apps outside of flatpaks...
I tried logging out of the desktop, and logging in on a text only console and doing the dnf update dance... but no dice.
As I had a second SSD in this thing, I rebooted into an Omarchy install but I'm still not sure about running Omarchy ... so I wiped the disk.
So, back to #CachyOS ... the install went well, and I've managed to resolve my issues with #valheim not launching (transpires my Valheim backup was made during a time when the devs had changed the case of a foldername and it caused all kinds of issues, resolved that and seems to be running now) ... so I'm back #linuxgaming...
However, I still cannot get the DisplayPort out working on my Thunderbolt 3 dock (Caldigit TS3+) and my other option was an Anker PowerExpand 6in1... but that sends totally loopy resolutions for my ultrawide monitor ... but I've at least confirmed the behaviour is the same on my Mac as it is on the GPD Win Max 2.
So, that leaves me plugging in an HDMI cable into the laptop directly like some kind of animal. Two cables connected? In 2026? What hellish landscape is this?
And, I have to be careful with the HDMI connection as well... I unplugged it, and then changed my mind and plugged it back in... only for that to totally lock the laptop. Completely frozen.
Not good. Will continue tomorrow.
