Just finished a four month game of #FreeCol https://www.freecol.org/ which was quite entertaining. It captured the essence of the old Sid Meier's Colonization pretty well but with some good updates.

I've played a lot of FreeCiv and OpenTTD. And a bit of OpenRA.

I wish someone made a clone of A-Train by Artdink as released by Maxis. I've got the floppy disks for it somewhere in my archives. I should find them again...

I enjoyed SimCity 2000 back in the day. And SimTower.

Hmm OpenRCT looks interesting...

A new version of #FreeCol, the open source version of #Colonization, has been released! This release features a new Colony panel with improved building graphics. In addition, there are lots of nice improvements and essential bug fixes. All savegames (without mods) from 0.12.0 and up should continue working with 1.2.0.

First, there's #Weblate. I strongly recommend it, I have recently started using it for my own games. #Minetest also uses it.

Then, there's translatewiki.net. #FreeCol uses it and a number of other projects. Also good.

There are also #Zanata and #Pootle but I have no experience with these and they may be outdated (check for yourself).

Then, there are translation services tailored towards specific software:

While #FreeCol https://www.freecol.org/ is an excellent recreation of the Colonization experience that we highly recommend, there are some that still wish for a 1:1 recreation of the original Colonization and it's classic 2D graphics that works on modern machines, allows modern viewing resolutions, and has easy modability. Anyone know how #Freecol compares to original #ColonizationGame? My main interest is in eliminating the memory limits. I avoided Civ4 "Colonization" because it changed the mechanics too much. I'd like to see largely the same #gameplay as the original, but with less bugs.

I'm excited about the #FreeCol release also because I've worked on the German translation. I think this was important since the translation had a ton of errors and inconsistencies.

OK, since a few months already 😄 , but I only now got the news. HUGE congratulations to the entire development team for this important milestone. I'm always excited when a free software game reaches version 1.0.
