My thoughts after decades of working for non-profits:
Something people need to remember about "non-profit". Non-profits still need to pay for their operations, or they have to shutdown. So a non-profit has just as much need to "make money" as a for-profit - and they are allowed to.
Don't begrudge them asking for money, as many people that take advantage of them seem to do.
