And today I finished the annual "if you aren't gonna die you gotta pay taxes" ritual. I've taken over from my wife who had been doing it with TurboTax so I keep that going even though it's a bit pricey. I hate filling out forms and scanning PDFs in is a breeze.

On the minus side, every fourth fucking screen was an upsell attempt for something called MAX.

Every.

Screen.

Come on guys. They also have a few misleading "click this box" places where a purchase is next to an acknowledgement of "yes I read this required verbiage".

@mookie Yeah, basically. I turned my #NordVPN off too.

Not sure I needed to turn everything off but I was frustrated & just decided to do that to see if it would fix the problem or not. It did.

Turns out that the Win11 antivirus program was activated automatically when the two 3rd party antivirus programs were deleted. So, the computer wasn't entirely vulnerable.

Didn't need the other 2 programs anyway -- McAfee & Avira -- since Win11 already has one but I'm not sure how robust it is.

Will have to look into that.

Didn't access the Net elsewhere after downloading & installing the program. So, if any viruses or malware were installed #Intuit had to do it.

Ran a quick Win11 antivirus scan after I turned Nord & the firewall back on & nothing came up.

So, I assume everything's ok but, like I said, before, it shouldn't have been that difficult to install the program. 🤷‍♂️

And yes, I know #Intuit is shit, and I wish I didn't need to use #TurboTax, but I've tried the competition and the unfortunate fact of the matter is that TurboTax is the best consumer tax prep software available that handles all of my tax circumstances. Any other company's software will be a downgrade, but it's a downgrade I will live with if Intuit stops allowing me to do my taxes locally on the desktop.

#Intuit is _aggressively_ (at least one email per week for the past month and a half) trying to convince me to switch from the desktop #TurboTax application to their online application.
There is no way in hell I am uploading all my income-tax data into Intuit's cloud app or anybody else's.
I suspect they want to stop producing the desktop app, but the day they switch to cloud-only is the day I will switch to another company's tax-prep software.

QuickBooks is an example of TDAAS, Tech Debt as a Service.

The god-awful software just stopped working on my client's 2024 laptop after two years of working. QB tech's actual response: "We don't support ARM CPUs. Buy another computer."

It would be hard to set up a more authentic looking phishing attack than their marketing department manages every year. #turbotax (just wasted 5 mins working out who runs brz.ai
