£8.80 well-spent
The West Midlands nnetwork Daytripper ticket is astonishing value for money. Just £8.80 gets you all the trains, trams, and most buses throughout the West Midlands for a day, as long as you start after 9.30am. So this morning I got one and explored a bit.
First I went to Birmingham, and ticked off another tram system:
After riding the entire line that was available (the wee branch in Wolverhampton appears to be closed), I switched to the train and headed off to Stourbridge to ride one of my bucket list trains: the British Rail Class 139, better known as the Parry People Mover.
This was a fun ride, made even better by friendly crew and decent weather. It operates a shuttle service for the three minute journey from Stourbridge Junction to Stourbridge Town. There is a train every 10 minutes in each direction.
But I wasn’t finished! I then climbed bazillions of steps, and tiptoed around a literal tonne of goose poo (and geese) to bring you this photo of the only remaining part of the Merry Hill Monorail, the station on top of Marks and Spencer.
The circle is where the logo for the station was displayed – each one had its own. In this case, I think it was a steam locomotive.
If you want to know more about the monorail, YouTube user citytransportinfo has published a couple of videos with contemporary footage.

Back inside, I looked for any signs of the station. I think this photo shows it from underneath – the flat part of the ceiling, and those sticking out bits with the diamond-shaped windows are not found in any other part of the complex, and I was standing underneath the station as far as I could tell:
