Tried a new (to me) #DarkRoom trick. So, here's what the negative of my #Seattle #Monorail picture actually looks like. It's overall kind of dark. I think I overcompensated for the low light (it was pre-sunrise) and overexposed it, actually. And here's what I got from scanning the negative. The scanner automatically set pretty nice levels.

Tho [for better or worse] that thing didn't get extended to the next Train Station with a Terminus for people to buy tickets and get into the park.

June 2024: Lucky shot. :) Airport Rail Link (standard gauge) above the new yellow monorail which is crossing the narrow gauge tracks below. A third train would have been awesome. But that’s really rare and it was way to warm Bangkok. ;)

My first monorail

Very occasionally, YouTube manages to recommend something I’m actually interested in. In this case it’s a look back at the monorail at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, the very first monorail I ever went on. Or saw, for that matter.

I have fond memories of going on this in the 1970s. When my family went to Blackpool, our trip would always include a visit to the Pleasure Beach and a ride on the monorail. It was my favourite ride there (no-one is surprised), and clearly had a lasting impact on me.

I often wonder if I ever saw the Rhyl monorail – we used to go there a lot too. I might have to get my mum to dig out the old photo albums next time I go to ~~watch Manchester City Women~~ see her. I definitely went on the one inside the Sun Centre.

Photographs from a SoraNews24 article on Michi no Eki Minami Kiyosato (Yamanashi Pref.) show that compact monorails already exist.
The return fare for the ride probably reflects the tourist attraction aspect in the Minami Kiyosato example and would need to come down to the level of a local bus ride for everyday use in remote rural settings.
