That aside, it’s still a fascinating glimpse at the CD-based multimedia future envisioned in the early 90s, starting with its release in 1990. Recently [MattKC] <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBSUH1QezjQ" target="_blank">decided to purchase another CD-i</a> in a fit of nostalgic rage, and repair it to show the world what the future could have been like.</p>
<p>Although Sony and Philips <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-i" target="_blank">co-developed</a> the device, Sony would go on to release the PlayStation a few years later, which made the CD-i’s life and expectations for it that much harder, leading to it slowly fading into history. The Magnavox one that [MattKC] got is one of the later models, based on the CD-i 450 that was introduced in 1994 as one of the more gaming-oriented models.</p>

Récupéré ce matin une platine CD plutôt bien 🤘

Pioneer PD-M502, changeur 6 CD à chargeur éjectable, fabriqué entre 1993 et 1994.

Tout fonctionne comme au premier jour : tu branches au secteur, tu charges 1 à 6 CD, tu presses PLAY et pi musique 🤷‍♂️

Seul bémol : pas de télécommande (pas possible pour ce modèle) et pas de sortie numérique coaxiale.

Je vais devoir graver des CD, hihi 😁😍

Another small #vintage# #hifi project. My Pioneer PD-T303 #cdplayer didn't come with IR remote control capability, but its bigger brother PD-T403 did. The service manual reveals the differences between the two: A diode, the IR receiver and a few wires. Since the service manual I got does not exactly match the PCB revision of my unit, I wasn't able to easily identify some of the bridge wires needed, so I instead used a long bodge wire to complete the circuit. #diy #electronics #modding

#vinyl would be nice, but I don’t want to have this kind of hassle and so many parameters in the signal chain, which can influence sound. So I start to collect #cd I still have some from the past, but it isn’t that much.

My #Sony CDP-S45 #vintage #hifi #cdplayer had developed difficulties opening and closing its tray. As is often the case, the belt driving the mechanism got quite stiff over time.
Removing it revealed a stiff and somewhat egg-shaped belt. I didn't have a suitable replacement belt, so I boiled the belt in water for a few minutes.
That brought it back to a much more circular shape and made it much less stiff. The tray now opens and closes as it should. #repair #VintageAudio #diy #CompactDisc

Happy daze. I decided to stop in a thrift store after running the errands I actually needed to do... and I found a 5 disc DVD player!

It plays all kinds of stuff. Except SACDs. It even came with the original remote and power cord!
There doesn't seem to be a [shuffle] mode at all but, that's okay. For $7 this'll do.

Was inspired to look up the very first CD "boombox" or "bookshelf" player I ever had, way back in the mid-90's: a Sony CFD-510, and I'm seeing people selling them as "vintage" and now I feel really old.
