This is Launch Complex 34 at Cape #Canaveral Air Force Station.
During a test of the #Apollo command and service modules and a Saturn I rocket in preparation for the Apollo 1 mission, a small spark from an unknown origin, combined with pure oxygen environment, allowed a fire to break out and essentially used all the oxygen in the combustion reaction, killing mission commander Gus Grissom, senior pilot Ed White, and pilot Roger Chaffee nearly instantly.
LC-34 was abandoned-in-place after the last Saturn launch was decommissioned.
It remains as a #memorial.

When #SpaceX was allowed to use LC-40 at Cape #Canaveral Air Force Station, SpaceX realized they needed to extend the flame #trench to be longer than what was used for the Titan IV #rocket that had used the #pad previously.
SpaceX chose to use a metal frame with water sprayers to flood the #exhaust to cool and slow it and prevent damage to the #vehicle or #infrastructure. The metal extensions are on the right of the image, next to the concrete structure next to the #strongback.

The two metal structures are the flame #deflectors, which are meant to sit under the #launch table during launch to divert #rocket #exhaust away from the #vehicle to avoid thermal, acoustic, or debris issues, as well as to minimize damage to #pad #infrastructure.
Theses #FlameDeflectors were used at LC-34 for the #Saturn I and the larger, wider one was used for the upgraded Saturn IB. Flame delflectors are meant to divert the #exhaust of a #rocket as it #launches to protect the #vehicle and #pad #infrastructure.

Just in case, here's what I know about commercial pads within The Rocket Row (I'm not counting KSC, big Titan pads, and the south section - only the row itself). From north to south:

47 - Space Florida and their insignificant tenants, university and amateur rockets
37 - Boeing/ULA Delta 4, getting shut down but probably mothballed
34 - Museum area, but it literally had nothing left except the exhaust splitter when I visited it
20 - Firefly, slated for Alpha but no launches happened
19 - unusued
16 - Relativity, one launch of Terran
15 - ABL, previously at Kodiak
14 - Stoke
13 - Phantom and Vaya. However, IIRC the footprint of LC-13 is already used by SpaceX for LZ-1 and LZ-2. It's unclear just how 2 more companies are going to be jammed in.
11 - Blue Origin, but they only used it to construct a test stand for engines
12 - unused
36 - Blue Origin New Sheppard, no launches yet but they aren't giving up and construction is getting finalized
46 - Astra, IIRC they made 2 or 3 launches after Kodiak

Notably absent is the reconstituted Vector.

Overall it's all kinds of crazy, just how many companies suddenly try to launch rockets. This does not include the all-but-bankrupt Virgin, the Rocket Labs, and of course the monster gorilla of SpaceX and the legacy launchers from ULA and Northrop (Orbital). Oh, and LOL NASA.
