As a young, politically engaged #millennial I was a part of a #progressive consensus. That consensus broke down in the 2010's due, in part, to our own naivety.
We thought our programme was so self-evidently good that only a lunatic fringe would oppose it. It didn't occur to us to worry about the #LeftBehind, when they too would ultimately benefit. They've seen the same studies and consultations that we have, right?
Even as we railed against #monoculture and #privilege, we were often blind to our own. Having the time, energy, and knowledge to play at politics is, in our society, only possible for those who enjoy enormous privilege. The #LiberalElite #Boogeyman of #NickGriffin and #PritiPatel never existed, but that doesn't mean that a large bloc of progressive #Xoomers and #Millenials didn't fool ourselves into believing we were far more representative than we were.
That caught up with us in the early 2010's, and was an important factor in #Brexit and the general shift to the right that we've seen.
