My youth was wasted playing schoolyard games.
I missed it when Miss Dickinson drove by.
I made good friends, but I forget their names,
And now I hear the buzzing of the fly.

I scrambled up a cliff beside the sea
And breathed in as I stood there on the top.
I felt the power of nature build in me
But couldn’t mimic Uncle Whitman’s yawp.
