Children and adults shouldn’t sit still in class. Yet we ignore established research when designing adult learning environments.

Back to school in 2026! I'm pumped about this next round of learning!

Doing some kind of studying as an adult is so up my street. The idea excites me, I get that ooh yes please reaction.
I am already doing my language studies, I feel they keep my brain active. So satisfying to see that I learned quite a bit. I think I only retain as much because I write phrases by hand that are new/important, particularly stuff that didn't make sense. Writing it down puts it into my memory banks more, I'm very visual. I'm so pleased that I keep doing that.

Now I'm looking around to see what ideas are out there. Reddit seems a good place to look. Found a thread on IWTL I Want To Learn: topics as an adult but how.
Someone comments about a study journal: brainstorm (and catagorise) - to develop a study mind set. I really like that.
I'm curious about many topics. Like the OP I quickly forget. But I feel that coming across the topic again does add to the info I already had, recalls it even. Some notes might be useful to focus the mind.

Oh! How absolutely intriguing! I got an email: "Lately on social media we’ve noticed a growing conversation about the idea of setting yourself an adult curriculum..." - that sounds fascinating!
(The email was from a genealogy place wanting to sell its courses. I'm not keen because they got rid of members discounts, so: nope). They continued with: "We love the idea of choosing and curating a year of learning for yourself."

I want something like that for 2026, likely beyond too...

Surprisingly, adults learn 90% of what they need to know to do their jobs informally — via experiential, social, and self-directed learning

We suggest you start with Phoebe Stephens’ and Lucy Hinton’s “The state of post-secondary food studies pedagogy in Canada” from vol. 8, no. 4 (doi.org/10.15353/cfs-rcea.v8i4).

Then check out the rest of this themed issue on Food pedagogies in Canada, guest edited by Michael Classens and Jennifer Sumner. Articles cover food literacy, integrated studies, sitopias, land-based learning, syllabi, bachelor’s degrees, farmers’ markets, food waste, campus cafeterias, performance, and food justice!
