The amount of hate being pushed out right now by alt-right and right-wing pundits and (ashamedly) officials is downright disgusting and reprehensible.

Regardless of your social caste, gender, or other identity, you are welcome on the fediverse and at mstdn.ca.

The absolute tragedy in Tumbler Ridge is incredibly heartbreaking, and we likely will never know the whole story.

Right now, we need to hold space for the victims, the community, and make sure that those in our lives who identify as transgender know that they are loved, and always will be.

People use Discord and Slack for different reasons.

If you want to create an alternative β€” the place to start is NOT E2EE (end to end encryption).

A place to start is understanding all these different types of users and use-cases. And then deciding which of these user types you are making the software for.

Some of them need E2EE, but some do not.

Pixelfed still isn't for sale.

Daniel,

Pixelfed looks fantastic on the US Store, with the 4.3 star rating and 511 reviews.

Do you think a sale or partnership to scale could be interesting for you now?

Really enjoyed the "Move Slowly and Build Bridges" talk this afternoon by @rwg, and the panel including @chad, Jordan (tag if you know their handle), @Django, and @KarenKeiller!

Also great to finally meet @robyn, @Chigaze, and @murteza, and to see @vga256 again!

Loops Pages - CMS Admin side feature ✨

Yeah, admins can create custom pages written in markdown (with a live preview), and you can even set a custom url.

But that's not all, you can even link it in the sidebar menu or footer for guests or logged-in users, or both, or none of the above, making it accessible via url only.

It's versioned with a changelog, and is just one of many unique features that sets Loops apart.

@peturdainn kids shouldn't be on public pixelfed servers btw, we have parental controls and restricted mode for that.

We are not limiting mastodon or other posts, that will be up to the user.

Not sure what loops has to do with it, but you do you girl πŸ’…

Wow, I just got a DM from the author of that ploum article apologizing that it hurt me, and I apologized too.

I get their point, and explained that I'm most upset about the state of the webUI that has prevented such progress, I have to rewrite it all first (which I'm doing).

It means so much to me that I'm able to find resolutions to problems or disagreements in the fediverse, and I look forward to fixing these for the Pixelfed community.

Thank you @ploum for understanding ❀️

@dansup there's an important principle here for all fedi software I think - you should federate everything, sure, without protocol-level filtering, but not everything has to make it into the particular UI of a particular bit of software. That's why people will choose one over another. We're not all microblogs.

At the moment, if you follow a mastodon user from Manyfold, sure, you can do it, but you'll get a warning that probably nothing interesting will happen πŸ˜ƒ

RE: mastodon.social/@dansup/115962

This is just one platform, I also have just as many, if not more hats for Pixelfed and the dozen side projects I run like fediverse.info, fedidb.com, etc

I need more help, not with code, but everything else 😒

@pfefferle I apologize for not explaining this more clearly, it just reminded me of that ploum article and I kinda lost focus.

We should discuss this further, and I look forward to resolving this amicably for both our projects.

You're an amazing fedi dev, and again, I apologize for my initial response, we will fix this and make our respective communities proud ❀️

Pixelfed won't block blog posts, text-only posts or long form content, rather we should hide them by default, and give users the ability to choose the level of federation support they desire.

I believe software level filtering will be useful to most users who want to prioritize photo-centric posts.

It's not my place to enforce restrictions, or admins IMO, it should be up to the user to decide, even with an opinionated default.
