Thank you @torvalds :linux:

A humorous Twitter exchange where Linux jokes about installing it being the second best choice, with Windows asking for the best choice.

@theron29 @lina that’s harsh the scrubber is still good for *something* at least …

2026-02-05

@lina mh… I would think the most accurate description would be “synthetic loofah”? Since its shape and look are mimicking loofah, while they’re not from the cucumber-esque plant that makes actual loofah.

Also, the hygiene argument is kind of silly, you obviously rinse it with soap and considering the temperature of my shower, I would say they’re almost sterile 🔥

Work echt nett, insbesondere was die Reparaturfähigkeit angeht.

@wifwolf when you say “lower end” about what rough budget do you have in mind? (Since I guess it means something different for everyone) I’ve been looking into options quite recently so maybe I have some ideas depending on the budget.

Edit: frame.work has some very nice options also for compact laptops and has the possibility to purchase them without windows license. All parts are also very easily replaceable from what I’ve seen (I’ve had the chance to see some at FOSDEM last week, too). But they are north of 600€. Even though you can find something comfortable and decent and compact within the 600-800€ frame if that counts as your budget still.

@Axel1973 @itsfoss I get the gist, and I support everyone switching to Linux. However a lot of people still use windows for their work, for example and are not permitted to use Linux on their work stations/laptops. Yes, very sad but also sadly the reality for a lot of IT workers stuck in mediocre conservative companies. So helping them having less shitty environments to work in is certainly helpful, too.

My Linux machine is back up! Finally have my private PC up and running again after finishing my custom loop… and suddenly realising the GPU is dying. (RIP RX 7800xt) I’ve only had the card for a year so luckily I received a full refund… and was able to replace it with a 9070xt just before the prices shot up. I had to buy a new waterblock though and adjust my hard tubing … again.
It was a stressful bunch of weeks but I’m happy with the result. Here’s to hoping no more components fail, especially the spicy DDR5 RAM…

Parts list:

GPU: 9070 XT (Steel Legend #monsterhunter Edition… doesn’t matter cause the cooler came off lol)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700x
RAM: 32GB DDR5 (Corsair Vengeance)
PSU: Corsair RM850x
Case: Fractal Design Define 7 Compact

Watercooling:
GPU: Alphacool Core
Pump/Res: EKWB FLT80 (don’t buy from EK they suck.)
CPU: Corsair xc7
Radiator: Corsair 360mm
Fans: Fractal Design Momentum (3x) Aspect (2x)

The picture shows a white PC case with a brushed metal front. Through a class panel you can see the inside of the case, showing watercooling tubes filled with pink translucent liquid connecting the components.

I hope I'm not the only one who think that a solid test suite for your project has proven more important than ever.

That's the wall crappy AI-generated PRs can't climb over.

@bagder I Apologise But Could You Kindly Elaborate To Me, The Human, How I Could Climb Over This Wall? Kindest Humble Regards~ (/s)

@Tywele it depends a bit on what you want (how many side buttons you need) but both my partner and I are quite happy enough with the Logitech G502 Hero. They come in cable and wireless variants. I use a cabled one, my partner the wireless. Both work well on linux. The only issue I have so far is the crappy firmware, but you can simply use OpenRGB and not bother with it, which is what I’d recommend.

This petition wants contributing to Free Software to be legally and officially recognized as volunteering in Germany on the same level as youth work or ambulance service:

openpetition.de/petition/onlin

This would bring fiscal and funding advantages for FLOSS organizations and the volunteers themselves.

If you are a German citizen, please sign the petition and let's get our volunteers the recognition they deserve!

Open Source security in spite of AI - the recording.

@Albright Open Source in itself is already a “political issue”. Open source standards for accessibility and privacy, which both are political issues. I do believe people like to use the term “political” as a buzzword meaning “a political stance I do not agree with” which in our times sadly means basic human rights for people who don’t fit the world view of conservative heterosexual men. Asking people to respect the basic bodily autonomy and basic human dignity of queer folks and POC should be a given. And I refuse to “respect” people who want to use services those same folks worked on for the sake of the community while refusing to just leave them be. I assume I do not have to point out the massive contributions of queer folks and POC within the open source community. A lot of them are very well known.
People who decide to not use a project because they are asked to not be an ass can kindly fuck off. I’d rather preserve the dignity of people contributing to the project and have less users.

@wolf4earth it’s an awesome project! I can only recommend checking it out to try and see if it suits your needs.
