My messy prototype for making it easier to visualize what produce is in season. Trying to cook and eat more seasonal ingredients this year! I made this based on data from the UGA Cooperative Extension. #cooking #zone8a #sustainability #winterproduce

A photo of a circle divided into four quadrants representing spring, summer, fall, and winter. Each quadrant contains a list of fruit, vegetables, herbs, and others that are available in that season.

Had these volunteer Korean sweet potatoes come back up in the garden over the summer, so I let them do their thang. I’m a little late harvesting them, but they look beautiful! Now time to wash them off really good and let them cure before sharing with friends and family. #gardening #zone8a #DecaturGA #squarefootgardening

Spring is on the way! Our peach tree has a million blooms this year so fingers crossed we get peaches this summer 😍 #gardening #zone8a

Watch out, slugs! Got crushed egg shells, diatomaceous earth, beer, and (hopefully 🤞) going to build a fortress around the brassica seedlings… bring it on, you slimy bastards!

Cardboard mulching in an attempt to keep the borage forest under control, and a little lasagna gardening (to be followed by manure, straw, and then hoop tunnels).

I'm always paying attention to what survives these periods of extreme heat. So, on day 2 of excessive heat (and bear in mind, we've had some freaky weather immediately prior too), the outdoor survivors include:

Southern Giant Mustard Greens
Alabama Blue Collards
Tomatoes (all)
Goth Basil (this is a homemade hybrid I got from a local gardener at a plant exchange)

Also, bizarrely, one broccoli plant. There's always at least one survivor I don't expect.

Just went outside to water the garden. What a gratifying time of year in Zone8!

Temps are pretty mild, we get some rain, everything is flourishing.

In my own little urban garden Crawford Lettuce, Southern Giant Mustard Greens, Mizuna Beni Houshi, Alabama Blue Collards are all doing beautifully. Amaranth running riot and in serious need of thinning.

Enough Goth Basil that I think we may end up with Goth Pesto :).

Signs of spring are coming up in the #garden. Almost pulled these thinking they were a weed but this is the first sprout from my hip rhizomes this year! It is growing with what I think is a flower.

A picture of an early hop sprout poking out of a raised garden bed. There is another plant growing with the hop sprout that I think is a flower.
