Cool VNA calibration paper: Backward-Unknown-Thru. Instead of SOLR (which is just SOLT with an unknown adapter), in the Backward-Unknown-Thru, you measure a flush Thru at the near end of the test cables, and do two 1-port calibrations at the far end. The solved Unknown Thru will have a negative length, which is the "mirror image" of the test cable error. Great if the two far-end ports are really "far". Even better, you can measure the 2-port Thru first, before doing two 1-port calibrations, this way the cable movement error is absorbed into the error box. #electronics #vna

Contrary to the classical SOLR the ‘Unknown Thru’ connection is made between the prior planes to the calibration planes as shown in Fig. 2. If the setup from the extension plane to the calibration plane is not changed the proposed backward SOLR does not cause any cable movements as the test-port cable movement occurred for the unknown thru connection is absorbed into the characteristics of the unknown thru as far as it is reciprocal as is the case.

Tag 5 fasst geschafft, freilich ohne Heizung. Ich schätze bei Lars Urbansky und Rolf Buch ist die Bude warm. Als Anteilseigner missfällt mir dieser Umgang und mir ist immer noch unklar weshalb die Heizung nicht stumpf im Handbetrieb läuft. Das ist jetzt mein 7 vs. Wild!

Tag 4 ohne Heizung. Gestern kam am Nachmittag der Monteur mit dem mobilen Heizgerät, lässt sich wenigstens ein Raum etwas temperieren (so lange die Elektroverteilung mitmacht). Warum läuft die Heizung nicht auf Handbetrieb mit festen Einstellungen? Das ist doch die gängige Praxis.

Tag 3 ohne Heizung bricht an. Der Service zur Lieferung mobiler Heizkörper vom Partner B&O darf mal einen Praktikanten zu den Profis der Logistik schicken. Bisher hat sich der Lieferant nicht gemeldet. Alle Wohnungen sind betroffen, dürften ausreichend Geräte angefordert sein.

Изучаем Analog Discovery 2: снимаем АЧХ фильтра шаг за шагом

Мне нужно было снять АЧХ фильтра в схеме измерения тока на основе дифференциального усилителя. Требование — ≥3 dB ослабление на частоте 1 kHz. Однако имеющийся в распоряжении лабораторный спектроанализатор с векторным анализатором не подошел, так как измеряет s-параметры только от 2 MHz. Для решения задачи я использовал Analog Discovery 2 (сокращенно AD2) от Digilent — универсальный инструмент для тестирования и анализа сигналов. Я настоятельно рекомендую его инженерам. В нашей компании он появился благодаря директору, который активно интересуется новинками в электронике. Digilent на смену AD2 уже вывели на рынок Analog Discovery 3 , но они взаимозаменяемы, поэтому инструкция подойдет и для AD3. В этой статье я покажу, как использовать AD2 для построения АЧХ фильтра. Уверен, что эта инструкция будет полезна и познакомит вас с возможностями устройства. Для выполнения задачи я буду использовать векторный анализатор цепей (VNA), который позволяет увидеть, как схема реагирует на входные сигналы разной частоты. Векторный анализатор тестирует цепь, подавая на нее сигнал, и измеряет, как она его меняет.

This one is off Alibaba. Full details on my site (and here) once I get some #SDR, #VNA #Inmarsat time with it. Main difference is the 3D is 0.5 spacing, this is 1.0. I'm worried about hi gain.

Basic #VNA question: what S11 values should I expect when measuring the connecting cable again after SOLT calibration with "zero-length thru" standard? What I actually see (plot in separate post) is very different from what I expected so far, so either I'm misunderstanding how it works or I did something wrong.

The internal reference from the VNA differs. Therefore my measurement of the crystal is not entirely correct and is always slightly off. I have to correct that first.
