In my tiny university's instructional technology committee meeting. The CIO is spending a lot of time justifying his purchase of an #AI chatbot. 1,000 conversations in the past 5-6 months (about 5,000 students plus parents, website visitors, faculty, and staff are potential users). We have no method to assess how many of those conversations were satsifying or helpful (another prof and I pushed for this in a previous meeting and were told we didn't need that). So a very small level of engagement and we don't know if it's helping. And we don't want to know.

Since this morning I have received 35 emails from a colleague who has somehow triggered an out-of-office message response to all their received emails going back to spring 2023. I used to team teach with this colleague, so their out-of-office-bot has a lot of old emails from me to respond to. The office has messaged them asking them to turn off their out-of-office message, but they are, you know, out of the office. #officelife #highered #ugh

I have a friend that I've been friends with since high school. I like my friend, but he's drinking the AI Kool-Aid.

We went to dinner last January and I told him I didn't want to talk about AI as I hate Generative AI. It's been a year so I guess he's decided he waited long enough.

I use Linux. Because Linus Torvalds used AI to vibe code something recently, my friend has taken that as an opening to talk to me about AI again.

Like everyone else in this modern age, I get way too many emails. However a lot of mine need replies. I thought by now I could be more reliant on my iPhone's voice-to-text to power though responses and save time...

WELL. In a recent note it decided to turn master naturalist in to bastard naturalists, and I didn't catch it. This is so embarrassing and frustrating.

This isn't the first unfortunate substitution. I guess we just can't trust anything.

I swore up and down I'd leave the office as is and not bother with a fourth coat of red-orange, which is a colour that often requires multiple coats for good coverage.

Painted the wall where my desk sits last Sunday. Did the other one last night after buying another litre of paint.

Doing the (much smaller) end walls today mutter sigh. It looks so much better and should also cure me of the urge to change the colour of a room for a good while.

I hate, hate, HATE being worked on in any way. This is one of the many reasons I do nothing with/to my hair other than wash and brush or comb it 99 days out of 100. Had a haircut today, more than a year after my last one, and BOY OH BOY did that reaffirm my choices. #ugh
