Apparently burners like this, with cast iron heat disks, used to be the standard on electric stovetops... before coil burners existed.
Why are they not a thing anymore? Why ARE they still a thing on cheap hotplates (this is the cheapest we could get our paws on)? Do they have any notable advantages/disadvantages? Any advice for cooking on it?
After trying to use it with a cast iron pan I want to chuck it out the window; I'm tempted to replace it with induction, but maybe a less heavy nonstick pan would make cooking on this thing actually tolerable.
