I’m sharing the first article in a series explaining the concepts and formulas needed to actually draw them yourself. It started as a personal project to create a meaningful gift for friends who had just welcomed a newborn.

Excerpt from a work-in-progress star map designed by Dwight Williams, inspired by various works set in the Star Trek universe. The Bajoran and Cardassian home systems are highlighted with spot-colour rings. A scan of the map of the region from the book Star Trek: Star Charts is used as an underlay for reference as the work continues.

Working on multiple maps of the same region of #StarTrek 's version of our galaxy is fun. It's also research-intensive and time-consuming, especially where keeping the various maps consistent with each other is concerned.

Well, I thought V442 Ursae Majoris might be a good candidate for Amleth. Looks like that star is too far rimward for my wants. Any alternative suggestions?
