Text from article:
Abbott weighed in on the Hays CISD walkouts in a social media post on Tuesday, referencing an unrelated incident involving Kyle High School students.

“Schools and staff who allow this behavior should be treated as co-conspirators and should not be immune for criminal behavior,” Abbott said. “We are also looking into stripping the funding of schools that abandon their duty to teach our kids the curriculum required by law.”

State Rep. Erin Zwiener, a Democrat whose district encompasses Buda, said, “Instead of calling for justice against the grown man that assaulted a girl, Governor Abbott is celebrating the arrest of students and calling for the criminal investigation of schools and teachers,” she said. “He is also threatening the funding of our school districts and spreading the lie that schools are inciting our kids to protest.”

Minnesota school districts, teachers union sue Trump administration over ICE activity near schools
By Mara Klecker
The Minnesota Star Tribune

"The lawsuit repeats what school officials have said for weeks, amid the surge of federal immigration agents: Attendance is down because students fear coming to school. Agents are staging on school property and conducting operations near schools and bus stops, which interferes with student learning and the regular functions of a school district and school staff.

"Then last week, Fridley Superintendent Brenda Lewis said she was followed by ICE on her way to school. Several of the district’s school board members have had ICE vehicles park outside their homes, something she said is “retaliation” for speaking out against ICE.

"Fridley schools closed Jan. 9 and Jan. 16 because of safety concerns and have seen attendance fall by nearly a third, prompting the district to expand remote learning. School social workers are delivering food to families staying home, which means “diverting their time from their normal work” and putting their own safety at risk, as agents have followed them during deliveries, according to the complaint.

"Duluth schools say administrators are spending nearly a third of their time on planning related to immigration activities, an effort the district estimates costs about $573,000 a month."

"Decades after almost the entire #Syrian #Jewish community left the country, Henry Hamra of #Brooklyn, #NY, stands at the metal door of a small #synagogue in this ancient Syrian city, literally holding the keys to a possible return of Jewish citizens.

Hamra was 15 years old when his family left #Damascus in the early 1990s after the #Assad regime lifted a ban on travel. Many of the Syrian #Jews were unable to sell their homes before they left. Some of the homes ended up occupied by other Syrians while the government took charge of the #synagogues and #schools.

In December, just days before Hamra's visit to #Aleppo, the Syrian government licensed a Jewish heritage foundation he leads, transferring control of Jewish #religious properties from the government to the organization.

The organization will also help restore private property appropriated when the Jewish community left to its Jewish owners."

#Activists in #Minneapolis are arrested while trailing #immigration agents

By RYAN MURPHY, SARAH RAZA and STEVE KARNOWSKI
Updated 4:44 PM EST, February 3, 2026

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — "Immigration officers with guns drawn arrested activists who were trailing their vehicles on Tuesday in Minneapolis, while education leaders described anxiety and fear in Minnesota #schools from the ongoing federal sweeps.

"Both are signs that tension remains in the Minneapolis area after the departure of high-profile commander #GregBovino of U.S. #BoarderPatrol and the arrival of #Trump administration border czar #TomHoman, which followed the fatal shooting of protester #AlexPretti.

"'There’s less smoke on the ground,' Gov. #TimWalz said, referring to #TearGas and other #irritants used by officers against #protesters, 'but I think it’s more chilling than it was last week because of the shift to the schools, the shift to the children.'

"At least one person who had an anti-ICE message on clothing was handcuffed while face-down on the ground. An Associated Press photographer witnessed the arrests.

ICE agents are changing their tactics

"Federal agents in the Twin Cities lately have been conducting more targeted immigration arrests at homes and neighborhoods, rather than staging in parking lots. The convoys have been harder to find and less aggressive. Alerts in activist group chats have been more about sightings than immigration-related detainments.

"Several cars followed officers through south Minneapolis after there were reports of them knocking at homes. Officers stopped their vehicles and ordered activists to come out of a car at gunpoint. Agents told reporters at the scene to stay back and threatened to use pepper spray."
