Just released my new app, rtl_icecast.

"A command-line application that uses RTL-SDR to receive FM radio signals and stream them to an Icecast server in MP3 format.

The main target usage for this app is to stream your local HAM FM repeater audio to your public shoutcast/icecast server with just a RTL-SDR USB-receiver and for example Raspberry Pi. It can be used to stream broadcast FM too, of course."

What's a good antenna for RTL SDR v3?

I don't (think I) want anything fancy -- just to mess around with.

I had a Wifi antenna connected to it at one point, which worked OK, but now I'm using that for its original purpose.

Not sure how old this is, but AntiX Linux boots up super fast on this old Sony Vaio i7 with 4 gigs of RAM. I'm very impressed with this distro. I've installed a suite of rtl_sdr programs on it and it works great. Fast web browsing, and terminal web browsing using Links2 which I haven't done in a while, just for fun.

Es 'fil llarg' va be si es lluny de nucli urbà. Per fora vila, es puig de Son Tovell estaria be, o a Na Penyal.

Been trying to receive NOAA APT satellite signals for the past ~week using an rtl-sdr dongle & a basic V-dipole. Yesterday, I ordered and received an LNA to boost the signal. Combined with a pass of NOAA-15 that basically went directly overhead, I was able to pick up this (composite) image. Which did not decode correctly, because clouds do not look like that (I didn't save the raw signal).

But I managed to get a signal, which is progress and very exciting to see!

Sometime down the road I'll build a QFH (a helical antenna) which should dramatically improve the signal quality.

A composite satellite weather image.

The background is a raw satellite image of western North America, from southern Mexico up to northern Canada & Alaska. I did not record the background image.

Overlaid on the satellite image is raw decoded APT signal from NOAA 15. In the center, between approximately the Oregon/California border up into British Colombia and stretching across the entire width of the image are white bands, which might indicate clouds, except they look like straight lines. Indicating that there was a failure to correctly decode the signal.
Outside of this stretch of white bands is static over the rest of the image.

So, I figured out how to use rtl_433 to receive the signal from my little weather station on the roof. Then discovered I was also getting the neighbor's weather station as well as occasional pings from elsewhere.

The interesting part is: the explanation for the difference in signal strength for the neighbor's weather station (blue line) from 8:45-11:30 today is that my civic was not parked in the garage on the other side of the wall from the antenna.

An RTL-SDR USB dongle with multiple plug-ins (upconverter, HF amplifier and FM bandstop filter), a telescopic antenna and usb cables all plugged into each-other and attached with zipties to the back of an upside down metal basket.

I think I'll stick with #OP25 which works well on a really old netbook - and works with only one #SDR - Granted, I can only listen to one stream at a time, but really, it's kind of hard to listen to two conversations at the same time anyway.

Wanted to thank @k9swx for the video, and the introduction to sdr-trunk thou.
