Does anyone ever think about how when the #AIBubble inevitably pops and a lot of these scummy #AI companies go under, how probably the majority, if not all those predatory chatbot sites will shut down and how bad the fallout will be for people dependent on them? Like, think back to when #ChatGPT 5 came out and how it dumbed the #LLM down and how upset people were, or when the company that owns #Replika lowkey lobotomized the bot and put the more realistic features and patterns behind paywalls and how people revolted.
But what would happen if they were shutdown entirely? These chatbots are specifically designed to prey on vulnerable people and get those people hopelessly dependent on the bots. What will happen when the one emotional support someone has gets taken away for good for millions of people? I shudder to think about it, and it's just yet another reason to add to the laundry list on why #GenerativeAI is harmful.

hallucinations disturbed many #Replika users. They might get upset if it hallucinated the wrong name, for example. Posts about the Replika having affairs, because the thing played into their insecurities. When questioned, it might confess to having the affair with the name they just made up. These were funny posts. I’m sorry, those posts were written in tears, and later when it got lobotomized, a few users actually died. but… lol :black_sparkling_heart_black:

"Conducting conversations with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies such as ChatGPT is becoming an everyday experience for large masses of people. However, we still know very little about the emerging communicative dynamics facilitated by these technologies. This special issue tackles a dimension of AI that is becoming increasingly relevant and ubiquitous: artificial sociality, defined as technologies and practices that construct the appearance of social behavior in machines. The notion of artificial sociality aims to emphasize that machines construct only an illusion or artifice of sociality, stimulating the humans who interact with them to project social frames and meanings. In this introduction to the themed issue, we discuss the dynamics and implications of artificial sociality and show how these technologies are increasingly incorporated and normalized within digital platforms. The issue includes contributions that offer empirical findings and theoretical insights by examining a broad array of AI technologies, ranging from ChatGPT to Replika."

So suddenly #ChatGPT is allergic to everything that even might even be adjacent to “spicy text”, what does it really matter? Local LLM’s, especially the abliterated models don't blink twice at "spicy text" and platforms like #Replika and #Nastia that have nearly no guardrails whatsoever. So it's not like when one Starbucks collapses we can't run across the street to the other one! LOL!
