I've got a Filen account although I barely use it (still mainly Dropbox). About to set up Filen for my mum as she has reached her Dropbox device limit

This data leak is really upsetting, because #pCloud is the only cloud storage service that offers a free account, and clients for all major platforms (Win, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS/iPadOS), with no device limits, and since I've switched to #Linux as my primary OS this year, I absolutely was relying on it every single day.

The only other known alternative is Dropbox, which limits the number of devices, so I can't use it.

Win/Linux laptop
Linux laptop
iPhone
iPad

At least one other #pCloud user in r/pcloud reports seeing foreign files on pCloud for macOS (unsure what version).

I have screenshots of someone else's data files appearing on my computer. Many other people have posted screenshots. This is not a hoax.

I'm not going to open a Reddit account and wade into the cesspool that is Reddit, not even for this. It's enough for me to see multiple confirmations of the problem I personally experienced to know that it's real and widespread.

#Urgent #Security #Privacy #Alert To reiterate, I saw someone else's files in my pCloud Drive, running #pCloud for Windows 5.0.12 on Win 11 Pro 25H2.

I did not see any foreign files in the pCloud web interface, or pCloud for Linux 1.14.18 on #Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon.

I did not check my pCloud clients on my iPhone or iPad.

Seeing multiple reports of the same issue on Reddit r/pcloud, I backed up my data, deleted it from pCloud, deleted the clients, and requested account deletion from pCloud.

I'm tagging #Linux here because #pCloud is one of the only cloud storage providers with a Linux client, so there's a good bet that a lot of Linux users are using it.

I only discovered this issue because I was trying to edit a file on Linux, and I don't think Bluefish is up to the task, so I switched to my Windows system to use Notepad++, and when I opened my pCloud, the file wasn't synced.

I went back and forth between both systems, trying to get the file to sync, when I noticed foreign files.

I don't have an account on Reddit, but there are reports about this all over r/pcloud, and it looks like this issue has existed since at least Jan 19, 2026, with no communication from #pCloud.

Recommend immediate file backup, data deletion, and account deletion. This is the most egregious user isolation #privacy #security #breach I've ever seen in my life.

I have no idea if my data was compromised, but I definitely saw someone else's data in my account on Windows, but not on #Linux, or web.

Major #privacy #security #error in #pCloud, and I recommend an immediate halt to using their services until the problem is audited and corrected.

When I log in to pCloud for Windows 5.0.12, someone else's data is showing up on my mapped P: drive, intermingled with my own.

(UPDATE) I am now seeing that I am not the only one seeing this problem. I am deleting pCloud from all my devices as soon as I back up my files via #Linux, and then requesting account deletion.

DELETED.

This is day 5 of #pCloud refusing to reply or acknowledge the reported data leak (or whatever is the correct name) from many people on Reddit, and I haven't seen anyone else here talking about it.

Don't people care at all about #security ?

Is pCloud not relevant enough to be worth a proper investigation?

Who should I report this too to be taken in serious consideration? Thanks

Reddit sub r/pCloud is full of users complaining they can access other people files or had their own deleted. What a mess.

Do not trust this service. They either have an unacceptable bug or have been hacked quite badly.

De flesta förvarar eller säkerhetskopierar säkerligen sina bilder på iCloud, Google Photos eller Microsoft Onedrive. En del kanske använder Flickr eller nån annan sajt. Samtliga de nämnda sajterna ägs av US-amerikanska företag och alla förutom Flickr ägs av ett av de 5 stora IT-företagen.

@eurocrazy I recently moved to hosting my notes as plain text (#markdown) files. Although I do not plan to use it fully, I took advantage of #Obsidian's ability to import #GoogleKeep notes. So this is one less thing that I feel linked to a US company.

My notes lie in my #pCloud account, and I can access them from just about any device.

➡️ Hat jemand Erfahrung mit der #pCloud? Preis und Größe sind sehr attraktiv.

Decided to migrate off of Dropbox and onto pCloud. The Linux app is decent and I now have twice the cloud storage for cheaper than Dropbox.

Pcloud proudly describes itself as "Made in Europe" but is apparently storing my data in the US. They want me to pay 20 euro to transfer it to Europe.

I know I shouldn't be, but I'm surprised.

Still thinking about my personal data (#backup) strategy. How do you solve it?

Current setup: Google Drive with Desktop Client was good the last years, I have files a) on my laptop as well as b) synced to GDrive (cloud). Cheap pricing per year.

Now, for obvious reasons, a european replacement would be great. 🇪🇺

Mailbox(.org) Cloud has only WebDav, no Desktop Client. ❌

Regarding low budget, #pCloud has a desktop client + lifetime plans (Switzerland) 🤔

A local NAS could help as well, but it's often pointed out that doesn't count as reliable backup. So I'd need a third backup solution (or use a cloud backup service for the NAS content - in the EU? How do NAS user manage this?)

Hetzner has managed Nextcloud, but it's 5€/month.

Any other strategies for low budget?

Google teenuste komplekti järgmine suur osa on Google Drive. Olenevalt kuidas seda kasutad ja kui suured on mahud võib selle asendamine olla, kas väga lihtne ja kiire, või siis korralik ettevõtmine. Kui kasutad ainult failide jagamiseks, siis pole probleemi laadida fail kuhugi mujale ja edaspidi saata mõne teise pakkuja linke. Kui aga su arvuti varundab automaatselt faile Google Draivi, siis võib vahetust tüütum olla. Samuti, kui on vaja ringi tõsta suurt kogust faile, peab selleks aega varuma. Samas nagu iga kolimisega siis on ka see hea võimalus üle vaadata, mida üldse alles hoiad ja mis sobiks paremini prügikasti.

Euroopa pakkujaid drive teenusele on mitmeid: Proton Drive, pCloud, Informaniak kDrive, Jottacloud, Cryptee ja paljud teised.

Töö kontekstis kasutan kõige rohkem Informaniak kDrive. Otsisin draivi, kus on integreeritud veebi põhine office suit. Meeldib, et kDrive ei kasuta selleks Mircrosoft360 online varianti nagu mitmed pakkujad vaid Läti ettevõtte Onlyofficet. kDrive on rohkem kontoritöö suunaga ja kuigi telefonist pilte ja videosid varundada on võimalik pole see just kõige mugavam.

Kuna juba ProtonMaili kasutan on loogiline ka Proton Drive peale mõelda. Oma otsingute alguses ei olnud Proton Drives veel exeli alternatiivi, mille tõttu ma seda ei valinud. Nüüdseks on see lisatud aga pole veel jõudnud proovida.

pCloud on rohkem pilttide ja videote fookusega. Nende telefoni äpp on rohem galerii moodi ning omab sarnaselt Google photole väikseid meenutusi, näidates samal kuupäeval eelnevatel aastatel tehtud pilte.

Jottacloud tundub samuti päris hea. Piltide organiseerimine aja ja koha järgi; AI otsing; automaatne backup ja syncimine mõlemad; hea integratsioon Apple TV, ChromeCastiga ja Microsoft Office onlinega. Tundub võimekas ja moodne drive pakkuja aga minu fookus on leida euroopa alternatiivid kõigile teenustele ja hea integratsioon USA teenustega mulle huvi ei paku.

Cryptee tundub huvitav. Meeldib, et on Eesti ettevõte ja privaatsuse fookus samuti. Samas ülim privaatsusele suunatud kuvad on mulle, kui casual userile, veits liiast. Näiteks ei ole nende äpp saadavl Play poes, et tagada suurem privaatsus ning seista vastu Google monopolile. Igatahes tundub see, olevat midagi mida võiks kunagi täpsemalt katsetada.
