Хочу поделиться своим необычным достижением: я стал официальным переводчиком книги издательства O’Reilly. Я перевёл на русский язык книгу Бориса Смуса Web Audio API (O’Reilly, 2013). В процессе работы над собственным образовательным проектом на тему синтеза и обработки цифрового звука, я начал изучать API и наткнулся на эту книгу на английском языке. Сначала я просто её конспектировал, но полезной информации было так много, что постепенно мои конспекты превратились в полноценный перевод. Тогда у меня появилось желание довести работу до конца — чтобы у русскоязычных разработчиков тоже был доступ к этим знаниям. В итоге я смог получить официальное разрешение на публикацию перевода от главы отдела по правам издательства O’Reilly и делюсь переводом с вами.

It sounds, then, like you want just a fairly straightforward NIS/YP system. It's an idea older than Linux is, and not even a Linux-specific one, let alone an Ubuntu-specific one.
You need a NIS server, a NIS domain name, your other machines set up as NIS clients, and various bits and pieces to make NSS consult NIS and know the LAN IP addresses for things.
There's almost 40 years of doco for it. The obligatory O'Reilly book has a porcupine on its cover, apparently. (-:

Once again lamenting how O'Reilly stopped selling DRM-free books on their platform (and almost everywhere else) and are now pushing for their subscription service which is more than $40 per month. Which means that basically you have to read a new book every month to justify the price.
