Bijgaand artikel beschrijft heel goed waarom dat zo moeilijk is, maar ook wat de weg ervandaan is, naar #OpenStreetMaps. Maar dan moeten we stoppen met het voeden van Gmaps, en dat in OSM doen.

Gelijk merkte ik hoe lastig die open wereld is, het wijzigen van gegevens gaat zoveel lastiger, en foto's toevoegen schijnt te kunnen, maar dan via https://www.mapillary.com/osm?locale=nl_NL ? Allemaal helaas niet zo intuïtief als Gmaps.

Unfortunately this confirms that there's virtually no recommendations for my part of Berlin lol. Maybe someone wants to dump this into a custom #OpenStreetMaps / umap?

#NotJustBikes video pointing out that route-finding apps are very cars-first. Sadly also true for (most?) #OpenStreetMaps wayfinding, the only cycle-specific one I found doesn't work in Australia.

The really annoying part was that even when I was very close to home it still tried to get me to backtrack and use the motorway for the last couple of kilometres.

"Prefer quiet streets over motorways" isn't an available option.

🔟 Weiter geht's zum #diday Nr. 2 und zwar mit Google Maps🫠. Ich habe mir in den letzten Tagen einige alternative Apps geholt und probiere sie nach und nach aus. Heute mit #herewego gefahren. Außerdem warten noch #Osmand und #OrganicMaps darauf, ausprobiert zu werden. Letztere basieren auf #openstreetmaps.

Here Maps mostra un ibrido, del tutto comprensibilmente.
Apple Maps ha fatto scelte "divisive" con una specie di AND logico fra varie mappe.

this is great! as is the timing!
it looks like a 1:1 port of organic maps
routing works and even previously downloaded maps import without issue
I guess the same goes for bookmarks and the like, but I haven't tested that

I did it by crawling through flatpak files, so idk if there's a ui option

for anyone else the map files should be put into the following directory:
`~/home/user/.var/app/app.comaps.comaps/data/CoMaps`

previously downloaded apps can be found in the analogous directory for organic maps

accurate and usable maps are invaluable!

@CoMaps is great and I'm quite satisfied, but they don't seem to support desktop to a stable degree yet

@organicmaps - the transparency issues aside - has a functioning desktop app, though very janky

I've had a look around and can't find anything able to replace it
so now I'm stretching my feelers here
