Door knocker featuring a eighth-pointed star with subtle engravings, attached to a plate composed of interlaced geometric motifs forming a frame around a central star-like pattern.

A rather wonderful ship-shaped weather vane on the top of the hall of the Shettleston Old Parish Church Hall on Killin Street in the East End of Glasgow. The hall was designed by W.F. MacGibbon, and was built around 1900.

Duane prepping some flasks for investing.

The wooden knob kept coming loose, and while I could have epoxied it on, I didn't like that idea. If the knob ever needed replacement, I'd have to heat it up to get it off.

So instead, this morning, I forged a new knob from 12mm square mild steel bar.

It is flush riveted on via a tenon on the knob, and a countersink on the hole on the back of the locking bar.

$Two large casting flasks cool on a firebrick pad. The one on the left has been cooling longer which you can see by the silver color. The one on the right still has a pink glow. ~ Twee grote gietkruiken koelen af op een vuurstenen plaat. Die aan de linkerkant koelt al langer af, wat je kunt zien aan de zilveren kleur. Die aan de rechterkant heeft nog een roze gloed. ~ Deux grands cylindres de moulage refroidissent sur une plaque en brique réfractaire. Celui de gauche refroidit depuis plus longtemps, ce que l’on voit à sa couleur argentée. Celui de droite a encore une lueur rosée.$

If you look closely at this one you can see the water in the bucket still boiling from the temperature of the invested flask. We pour our silver at close to 1850*F and while it cools considerably before we quench it there's still a whole lot of heat.
