Your five-year plan might be holding you back. It’s okay to pivot and start over.

It’s been awhile… but I’m still here.

New roles, a new decade, growing kids, and a whole lot of life in between. Tell me—what are your ittybitty updates lately?

My commute on a sunny day. Some days are good and some days are challenging. A few days ago was exceptionally both so. I received a phone call from my brother. He's in Germany. We haven't spoken in over two years. It's not because of him, but because of the insanely toxic and abusive relationship with my parents. I thought he would take their side. He didn't. My folks lied that I was dead or rotting in a prison somewhere.

It's been a whirlwind ride but I'm handling it hour by hour, day by day. We're meeting tomorrow for brunch and catching up.

So random good news. I dropped my A1C down two points. I went from a 9.1 to a 7.4 in 3 months without having to do a whole lot. I switched to "zero" everything when having sodas and started limiting desserts.

Not just a brag, but hoping that this inspires someone else to get their numbers under control. It can be depressing to be forced into life changes.

A little sneak peek into the Skelly life…

Today’s writing prompt turned into something a bit more personal, so I thought I’d share a glimpse of what’s ahead. Big changes are on the horizon, and while the journey has been anything but ordinary, I couldn’t be more grateful for where we’re headed. Stay tuned—there’s more to come! ✨

Another dozen applications in today. Passed my GSEC yesterday, and requested to schedule the GCIH. Still trying to decide my elective certs, but ultimately wherever I wind up working will probably decide that as I want to be an asset wherever I land.

Weird to be in information security / cybersecurity right now with my background and experience. It's so undervalued or not viewed as relevant. Ah well.

How's everyone else doing?

🏠 Once again, I'm on the move to find a new place to live. My current room is needed by the owner after a hurricane hit. Life just keeps throwing these curveballs, right?

Oh, also a general update on my life since I've been extremely quiet the last two months.

I planned on opening commissions (which are still open technically), but did fairly quickly find a fulltime job so I've been focusing on that and trying to get my schoolwork done (I got suuuper behind when I was stressed about income). I'm doing better financially at the moment but I am open for art comms if someone is interested.

IRL related, I got to go to my first munch in the area I moved to. It's still a bit of a drive for me but the group seemed really friendly and more my vibe than some other options. It's not little-focused but it's a general kink group that is little/ageplay inclusive which is nice. Gonna try to see them again soon and get into the habit of putting myself out there to meet people. There's another place in the area that has an All Gender's Night so I kinda want to go and see how the vibe is there but that's more of a sex party deal than a meet and chat, so I'll have to work up confidence and courage for that for a bit before attending, even if I don't plan on participating that way (the people who attend and run it seem cool, just never been in that environment specifically).

So yeah, overall things are looking up and hopefully I'll be able to finally save up for some well needed expenses in the coming months.

So I'm trying to get in the habit of using other social media more and posting rather than just lurking, so uh... people just post about their life, right? That's what normal people do? 🤪

Anyway, had a fun, unexpected trip to the ER last Saturday x3 was having stomach pain that, originally, I assumed was just stubborn bloating and gas from lactose ingestion that even my Lactaid pills couldn't handle. Stubbornly though it lasted from the real early AMs into the afternoon, and I started to get concerned and annoyed I couldn't sleep xD

So I went to Urgent Care, who suspected it could be something to do with my gallbladder and pointed me to the ER where I waited 3 hours in the waiting room and 3 hours in an exam room before FINALLY being free x3 long story short, was given a nasty mix of 3 liquid medications that coated my stomach and numbed it, and my throat and mouth with lidocaine (suuuuuch a weird feeling), and the pain subsided. They prescribed me new meds and diagnosed me with gastritis and a funny sounding disease called GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), and recommend for safety I follow up with my regular doctor to schedule an outpatient gallbladder ultrasound to save my wallet some pain.

...... Which I still haven't done yet >u>;; I-I swear I'm a functioning adult...

So yeah! Fun update and a peak into the life of a crinkly fox with tummy issues ouo

Today was a whirlwind of emotions. It started with a lingering sense of unease from a vivid nightmare that left me feeling vulnerable and scared. I've dealt with nightmares throughout my life, and while they have become less frequent over the years, they still occasionally catch me off guard. These dreams often revolve around past experiences or completely random scenarios, leaving a lasting impression on my mind.

Despite the rocky start, I went about my day as planned. I attended a church service, which was enjoyable until the social gathering afterward. I struggled to connect with the humor and conversations, which left me feeling out of place. It was a reminder of how challenging social interactions are for me.

On a brighter note, I received communication from the university regarding my application to resume my studies in neuroscience. The request to explain my previous withdrawal caused some anxiety but I managed to articulate my reasons and the personal growth I've experienced since then. My GP offered to write a letter on my behalf, which was a surprise. I have a music rehearsal tomorrow, and although some changes in the music are causing a bit of anxiety, I'm determined to prepare for my solo performance on Sunday. #LifeUpdates #Music #dreams

Dear E-Diary,

Good morning to you, my trusty companion. Last night, I slept quite well, all things considered. My feline friend decided that I needed to resemble a cinnamon bun for the night, curling up tightly next to me and leaving me little room to stretch. It wasn't the most comfortable night's sleep, but it had its charm. [Continued in next post]

It’s been a couple months since I posted here, and so I thought it was about time for a general life update post. August through October is always a crazy time in our lives with the fall running and biking calendar packed with activities. Between heat in the summer and cold in the winter, some of the most packed times for events to take place is during our shoulder seasons where things can be a bit more moderate.

This year September started with my usual captaining of the County Road 6 aid station at the Fall Superior 100. However, this year was my final year in that role. After seven consecutive years I decided it was time to take a step back from that role and open up the possibility that I might run the event in the future. Not 100% committed to that yet, but I want the option to exist if I so choose.

It ended up being a great final year, and after working the station all evening I got some sleep and then headed out on course to spend the day shooting photos. I’m really happy with how this album came out and the location I discovered. Unfortunately some rain moved in later in the day darkening the skies a lot, and I had to abandon my location before the final runners came through. Still a great weekend though.

The next week Lisa made an attempt at the Chequamegon 40 bike race. Unfortunately the course was not what she had trained for and it got the better of her. She still learned a lot and came away with a much better sense of what she would need to do in the future at that race. I got the spend the day as crew and spectator which was fun for a change. Had lunch at a delightful cafe in Cable, WI before heading out on course to rescue Lisa from the aid station she dropped at.

The following week I joined my friends Mike and Beth on some of their peak-week long running as they prepare for the No Business 100. I’ll be driving down to Tennessee with them later this week to crew and pace. It should be quite the adventure and I’m excited to help them achieve some amazing goals.

Then we wrapped up September with the epic and gnarly Heck of the North bike race (we did the 55 mile event). Lisa and I did this event together and holy crap was this a ton of fun. The mix of ATV trail and gravel roads made for an exciting and muddy adventure. A previous two days of rain meant that we had to spend a good two hours cleaning bikes when we got home, but it was an insanely great time and we loved getting to see some areas around Two Harbors that we’ve never seen before.

Unfortunately, after arriving home later that night we ended up needing to rescue our son who had gotten into an accident with our car. No one was hurt and everything will be fine, but we’re looking at car shopping when I return from Tennessee.

And then October kicked off with our race, the Fire Tower Trail Races. With the cancellation of the Twin Cities Marathon we ended up with a surge of folks at the last minute wanting to come run our race. We managed to get 167 people through the event at various distances and had an awesome day in the woods. It’s really fun to put these events on and help people reach their goals, but it is very draining for us and we’re looking forward to some down time in the near future. Having to turn around and go on a trip so quickly afterwards means that vacation will need to wait a few more weekends.

The plan is to take it much easier in November and December. Lisa is deep in training for Tuscobia 80 (bike) and I’m going to join some friends in sled pulling training again this year, despite not doing any winter races. I’m just trying to keep my body moving and active and hopefully enter 2024 with a good base to build off of. Excited for things to come in the new year and continuing to try and live my best life.

Life has been quite the whirlwind and yet at the same time has felt like we are in limbo. We are busy but we are also trying to sell, buy, and move to a new house. We are not sure how our life is going to play out in the next month or even the next couple of weeks!

One reassurance we have is that things usually resolve themselves in the end, especially when we are doing the best we can to do what is right.

We just gotta ride the storm in the meantime 😂⛈️🌪️🌀
