#Mastodon / #feditip: Please don't use URL shorteners, they don't help with saving on character count because web addresses are counted as 23 characters. Many users won't boost or click on shortened URLs because links whose destinations you can't check are considered security risks, and are hostile to screen readers. Transparent and informative URLs are right there in the address bar for your use, there's no need to go through an opaque and potentially insecure shortening service.

Open your instance with a browser, sign in, and somewhere on the top page you should see "preferences" (in your language) with a cog icon. Click that. Then find the "filters" menu and click that. Click the "Add new filter" button. Give your filter a title, choose your settings, then add the keywords you want to avoid. Save your filter. You can edit it later. That's it. #FediTip #filters 2/2
A tip for those who might not know (or might not know how): You can curate your feed with #filters Filters hide posts that include filtered words. If you find posts about certain topics stressful or annoying, you can easily avoid them by filtering keywords that are usually found only in posts on those topics. Although some Mastodon clients don't let you make filters within the app, you can always make filters on the web interface. #FediTip 1/2

Excellent #Feditip here, both on the removal of inactive followers, and the warning about "remove all followers from selected domains".
That second is surely a useful function to have, but it needs to be NOT something you can accidentally do.
The thing about relying on content warnings to protect yourself is that it requires the cooperation and consensus of everyone in the Fediverse. More effective and realistic is setting up filters. I have a list of filtered words, hashtags, and phrases for things I don't want to see, and it keeps those things off my timeline regardless of other people's choices.
(I suppose this counts as a #FediTip)
Little known fact for all you pollsters: polls cap at a gazillion votes, once it hits a gazillion votes the count resets to zero (example below)
