My new #Cosmic desktop environment is making me work in a slightly different way to my norm. More workspace usage in particular. And you know what? It works well and I'm really enjoying it.

Yes there are one or two very minor niggles. I have had to go back to keyboard print screen as the Screenshot app that came with Cosmic isn't working for some reason. As I say, minor stuff. Overall very pleased with Cosmic.

I don't distro hop much these days. For the last 6 years or so I've been on @pop_os_official with it's Gnome DE. Its a system I'm comfortable with. Today I successfully upgraded to @system76 new release, 24.04 LTS with a Cosmic DE. This was a painless upgrade for me.

Have to say, its a very clean and fresh looking desktop environment. I like it. Nowhere near the amount of customization that KDE has, but at first glance its going to suit me well. I prefer things familiar and simple. Thanks to the developers.

I just wanted to share this awesome article dropped this month from datagubbe.se about customized Amiga desktops. As someone who's kind of obsessed with UX and desktop designs, these are a beautiful collection of pixelly goodness:

Hype for the Future 45D: YouTube Content

novaTopFlex continues to pursue new interests in technology and often prefers diversity in terms of the different desktop environments and window managers in question. Even on YouTube Shorts, diversity of desktop environments and window managers is absolutely essential for an effective demonstration of a vast plethora of Linux, BSD, Solaris, and otherwise UNIX-like environments. COSMIC Desktop reaches first stable release

System76, creator of Pop!_OS and prominent Linux OEM, has just announced the release of Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS - normally not something I particularly care about, but in this case, it comes with the first stable release of COSMIC Desktop. COSMIC is a brand new desktop environment by System76, written in Rust, and after quite some time in deve

CDE 2.5.3 released

So my love for the Common Desktop Environment isn't exactly a secret, so let's talk about the project's latest release, CDE 2.5.3, released a few days ago. As the version number suggests, this first new version in two years is a rather minor release, containing only a few bug fixes. For instance, CDE's window manager dtwm picked up support for more mouse buttons, its file manager dtfile

Anyone know if there’s a way to add a delay to the auto-hide panel in KDE Plasma?
Right now it pops up instantly when the mouse hits the screen edge. Would love a small configurable delay.

Is this possible in Plasma? 🤔

IceWM 3.9.0 released

Another small release for the IceWM window manager - one of the staples of the open source world. IceWM 3.9.0 seems focused mostly on cursor-related changes, as it adds libXcursor as an alternative to XPM cursors. This means IceWM is no longer dependent on libXpm, and gains the benefits that come with Xcursor. There's the usual few bugfixes and translation updates as well.
