Earthrise — this photo always comes to mind on December 24.
Read or watch about how the photo came to be: science.nasa.gov/resource/the-

and about its perceived impact on humanity: bbc.com/future/article/2023051

Photo of an unusual changeable daily wall calendar against an eggshell or yellow-white wall. It is a small, rectangular piece of painted wood, a plaque, with three horizontal slots, hanging so that the long axis is vertical. At the top is a painting of a small white cottage with a red roof, surrounded by flowers and trees. There are three small bouquets of flowers below, one painted above each of the horizontal slots. At the very bottom, "Canada" is painted on the plaque. In each slot is a long horizontal strip of wood with painted words or numbers. The top strip of wood has the twelve months painted on in French. It is slid so Tha "Decembre" is under a flower bouquet on the vertical plaque. The middle strip has the numbers from 1 through 31 painted on it, slid so that 24 is under a bouquet on the vertical plaque. The lowest vertical strip of wood has the days of the week painted on it, and it is slid so the "Mercredi" is under a bouquet.Iconic photograph, "Earthrise," taken on December 24, 1968 by astronaut William Anders, aboard the Apollo 8 crew module as it orbited above the surface of the moon. It shows the blue earth streaked with clouds rising above the barren, crater-strewn surface if the moon, against the black void of space.

"Christmas Eve, 1968.
As their command module floated above the lunar surface, the astronauts beamed back images of the moon and Earth and took turns reading from the book of Genesis, closing with a wish for everyone “on the good Earth.”

The first crewed orbit of /the Moon began on in 1968 when inserted itself for the first of ten lunar orbits. They took the famed photo, which deeply affected the new movement, and did live broadcasts from the capsule.

Good Morning, all,

no jars of Vegemite were harmed during the failure of this Aussie rocket launch...

And #RIP Jim Lovell, the only human to ever fly twice to and around the Moon without landing.
