#ZLUDA Boasts Full #Llamacpp Support, Better Windows Handling For #CUDA On Non-NVIDIA GPU
ZLUDA developers had hoped to provide robust PyTorch support by end of 2025 but that didn't quite turn out. Llama.cpp support using NVIDIA CUDA back-end is now considered complete. Llama.cpp has #AMD ROCm but having ZLUDA support for Llama.cpp allows for performance comparisons. ZLUDA devs report that their route achieves "nearly identical" performance to the native ROCm back-end.

#ZLUDA Adds #CUDA 13.1 Compatibility For Running CUDA Apps On Non-NVIDIA Hardware
The current form of ZLUDA is on delivering CUDA for non-NVIDIA GPUs but not explicitly being tied to one #GPU target/vendor like in the past. This multi-GPU CUDA implementation though has been taking a special focus on AI workloads but ultimately this implementation will hopefully allow most unmodified CUDA software to run gracefully on other GPU hardware.

#ZLUDA v4 Released For Initial #CUDA Support On Non-NVIDIA #GPU
Back in October ZLUDA decided to pursue a new life as an #opensource multi-GPU CUDA implementation with an emphasis on AI workloads. ZLUDA v4 was released as the first step to that new codebase. But before getting too excited, ZLUDA v4 support is quite limited and the only known intended program to be currently working is Geekbench with its CUDA benchmarks.

Целью проекта является предоставление возможности запуска немодифицированных приложений CUDA на системах с GPU, отличных от GPU NVIDIA, с производительностью, близкой к производительности приложений, выполняемых без прослоек. Код проекта распространяется под лицензиями MIT и Apache 2.0.

ZLUDA 4 преподносится как первый выпуск, сформированный после чистки кодовой базы от кода, разработанного во время работы Анджея в компании AMD. С 2022 года Анджей работал в AMD над созданием слоя для совместимости GPU AMD с CUDA, но в 2024 году проект был свернут. В соответствии с условиями контракта и после получения разрешения на публикацию от представителя AMD, Анджей открыл код наработок, созданных во время работы в AMD и позволяющих выполнять CUDA-приложения поверх стека ROCm и runtime HIP (Heterogeneous-computing Interface for Portability). В октябре Анджей был вынужден убрать код из открытого доступа после письма от юристов, давших понять, что разрешение в ходе переписки по email не имеет юридической силы.

Новая редакция ZLUDA сформирована на основе кодовой базы, существовавшей до начала работы Анджея в AMD, не привязана к конкретным GPU и сосредоточена на выполнении приложений, использующих CUDA для ускорения задач, связанных с машинным обучением и искусственным интеллектом. Проект пока ограничивается работой на GPU AMD, но в дальнейшем будет адаптирован для GPU Intel. Выпуск ZLUDA 4 написан на языке Rust и ориентирован на выполнение тестового набора Geekbench 5.

Новая версия включает новый парсер для PTX, промежуточного языка, используемого в GPU NVIDIA. Выпуск также примечателен уходом от эмуляции специфичных для GPU NVIDIA инструкций инкремента и декремента по модулю, вместо которых теперь вызываются аналогичные инструкции GPU AMD. Указанные изменения позволили добиться повышения производительности при прохождении теста Geekbench примерно на 10%, по сравнению с OpenCL и веткой ZLUDA 3.

#ZLUDA Takes On Third Life: #OpenSource Multi-GPU #CUDA Implementation Focused On AI
ZLUDA is being rebuilt to focus on multi-GPU vendor support and will take a particular emphasis on #machinelearning / #AI type workloads. Previously ZLUDA was more focused on enabling professional creator workloads while now it will be more focused on CUDA-based AI/#ML software. The new ZLUDA code will be focused on #RDNA1 and newer support along with #ROCm 6.1+ compute stack support.
