UK #Wikipedians with more status and experience than me, I just tried to make a page for #HannahSpencer the #GreenParty candidate for the #GortonAndDenton byelection only to find that someone had got there before me and it had been deleted due to not meeting the threshold for relevance en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ha Could someone with a bit more Wikipedia clout than me dispute this please? Given the significance of the byelection and the fact that the majority of the other candidates have profiles

@timbray #OnTheMedia's classic 2006 episode, "Prime Number", addresses this point beautifully, mostly related to news and media, though #Wikipedia and #Wikipedians should take note.

OTM cites #CarlBialik, then writing for the WSJ (he's since worked at FiveThirtyEight and is now at Yelp ... per Wikipedia):

An interesting phenomenon of these numbers is that they'll often be cited to an agency or some government body, and then a study will pick it up, and then the press will repeat it from that study. And then once it appears in the press, public officials will repeat it again, and now it's become an official number.

#Wikipedia edit: An interesting typo in EN.WP's [Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives#The Monitor](en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian)

The typo is 'complies', which should be 'compiles'.

However, it is a perfectly correct word, and so will not be detected by spelling algorithms. Like rather a few other easy typos. Someone may want to define some logic to check this one, too.

Hey English #Wikipedia / #Wikipedians : how is it that the lead of a controversial political person - Yves Engler en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yves_Eng - contains misinformation which is documented in the article and cited? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yves_Eng

Any #Wikipedians know why the entry on the Crimean War is messed up in the way it displays. Looks like the infobox might need some tweaking, but I'm not sure. Can this be cleaned up, or does it need to just be reverted to a last known good version? #Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_

@oehlda2000

Exactly. Also sad that #Wikipedians cannot seem to grasp what the #Wikinews project is for.

Wikipedia is now my best internet search engine, the default in my browser.

But for my purposes, finding an article or topic in one or another language of Wikipedia will usually lead me to an appropriate url within 3 clicks - often the exact citation, person, or company I for which was looking.

Otherwise I fall back on mojeek.com, and it's a bit rough still.

Hey friends who use Wikidata! I have a Wikidata Query for you:

Would you also like to have intervener added as a property?

" #Incrementalism is a philosophy held by #Wikipedians who believe that with the #IncrementalGrowth in the number of Wikipedia articles over time, items which were once deemed to be insufficiently #notable to have articles may eventually prove notable enough for an entry."

But it also had long standing #wikipedians patiently explaining Wikipedia's various processes to ward out nonsense. It's setup to make it very easy to #UndoVandalism.

Call for #wikipedians using The #WikipediaLibrary : have you ever found a source in the #InternetArchiveBooks you can't use or read simply because you have not a complete access to all pages? I'm having this experience today, it's annoying. WHY we as volunteers still not have full access to these resources of @internetarchive ? BECAUSE there is a suggestion to include it in the list of partners still not approuved. If you care about such a relevant partner, please support the suggestion.

screenshot of the page https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/suggest/ , focus on the section about the suggestion of the Internet archive (Books). There is only this black text on grey-white background on the screenshot:
"Internet archive (Books)

Description: Some books on archive.org can be only "borrowed", meaning that you can read it only for a short period of time. I don't know it is possible, but can read books limitless will be very usefull to add sources.

191 are votes to the suggestions.

Translated: According to a document, the Heritage Foundation, which is close to #Trump, wants to expose the identities of #Wikipedians and "target" them. This is to be done using all kinds of questionable methods, such as analyzing texts and user names and evaluating data leaks.

9/ I love #Wikipedia as a reader and served on the @wikimediafoundation Advisory Board for a few years. But my experience as a contributor has been largely negative.

Could we do this monitoring job on Wikipedia without inviting editors to take it down for violating the neutral point of view (#NPOV)?

We should be able to. The actions of the Trump admin, and the actions of those pushing back, are public and could be logged neutrally. But I'm not optimistic that such a list would survive for long. Could any #Wikipedians advise or help with that?

@dangillmor
Hey, #Wikipedians, thinking there could be a Wikipedia twitter eXodus article / section for celebrities, media, government leaving the platform in protest.
Short list I've cobbled together: Guardian, Le Monde, HelloQuitX campaign, Barbra Streisand, Don Lemon, Whoopi Goldberg, Elton John, Jim Carrey, Jack White, Mark Hamill, Stephen King; guessing there are, and will be, plenty more😉

Got to attend this awesome event today Kerala 2024. Caught up with @subins2000 and many more of the during the event. I forgot that I had applied for the lightning talk and I was the only one who got selected. (Not sure if I was the only applicant).

Anyways I had completely forgotten about the talk and only realised I had my talk few hours before.
