📌 Quick Tips on Shoulder Engagement 💪

☑️ Understanding shoulder engagement matters because the shoulders are involved in almost every upper-body movement, pressing, pulling, carrying, stabilizing, and even bracing your core.

👉 If you don’t know how to properly engage them, other muscles will take over, tension gets misplaced, and progress slows down.

today in the gym we squat, we bench press, we barbell row and do 10 minutes of jumping plyometrics (box jumps and depth drops are my favorite) and there's a new Elise Faber book so I'll be reading The Bachelor and the Break-In wherein Jean-Michel will fairy godfather somebody and plots will thicken.

Nine-year-old deadlifts into the record books
By Dylan Morris

In January, the Sunshine Coast boy claimed a world record with an 80-kilogram deadlift, beating the previous record of 72 kilograms.

🎯 Why the Shoulders are Crucial to your Routine! 💪

↔️ Your shoulders are the “connector hub” of your upper body.

In a balanced routine, they’re doing three big jobs at once: moving your arms, stabilizing your joints, and keeping posture and strength balanced so your pressing, pulling, and even lower-body training stays clean.

Superset Strategy and Hypertrophy 💪🔃

Supersets matter for hypertrophy because they let you stack high-quality volume in less time while creating a strong growth signal through a mix of tension, fatigue, and blood flow, without needing to dramatically increase your total workout length.

1️⃣ Pick the right pairing

2️⃣ Match the goal to the superset type

3️⃣ Control rest so quality stays high

4️⃣ Use sequencing to protect performance

Moved the account and going to start maybe posting something once in a while, so might be good to do an #introduction

I live in Portugal with my fiancee and our #dog, love sports (#volleyball and all sorts of #weightlifting), hiking, currently playing Soma and re-reading some books by sir Terry Pratchett

Favorite games include Planescape: Torment, Disco Elysium, Fallout: New Vegas

Gym people: which would you actually share with a friend?

1) A PR “confetti” screenshot
2) A 4-week strength chart
3) A simple workout summary (volume + top set)
4) An achievement badge

Reply with 1/2/3/4 (and why).

Squat/bench/row day and YES my asthmatic ass did the full 10 minutes of after, so goal reached; the goal being 10 minutes 3x a week. Now I just have to do it again Wed and Fri. If you have not read Next Level or heard of Dr. Stacy Sims, 10 minutes of jumping 3x a week alongside 3x a week provides the stimulus for bone growth/retention that hormones used to provide. Check out her work for more on women's health for all ages including perimenopause, menopause and beyond.

Hot take: most gym apps aren’t “too complex”… they’re just too slow.

If it takes 30 seconds to log a set, people stop tracking.

I’m building for 5-second logging + instant PR celebrations.

What’s your biggest tracking friction: typing, exercise search, or too many screens?

Choosing the Right Rep Ranges 🔢

Choosing the right rep ranges for hypertrophy is really about picking the “lane” that lets you create the best muscle-building stimulus with clean form, high tension, and recoverable fatigue.

👉 Essential Tips Smith Machine Incline Tricep Extension 👈

✔️ One of the simplest ways to create high-quality triceps tension with less chaos and more consistency, which is exactly what drives hypertrophy over time.

✔️ It’s a stable, progression-friendly triceps isolation that can deliver serious mechanical tension, particularly to the long head, while reducing form variability, making it a reliable tool for building bigger arms.

#workoutOfTheDay

First the strength part, back squats

5x4 Back Squats @ 70% of 1RM. For me that's 78kg on the bar.

The #workout was a classic: #Fran

21 Thrusters
21 Jumping Pull-Ups
15 Thrusters
15 Jumping Pull-Ups
9 Thrusters
9 Jumping Pull-Ups

I did the thrusters at 30kg, which is heavier than I've done in... a long time. Years?

Finished in 5'04"

Compared to the last time I did fran, in sept 2022, when I took 5'26", had 17.5kg on the bar and did ringrows, this is a massive improvement :D

Benefits of Smith Machine Chest Press 🏋️‍♂️

The Smith machine chest press can be a really useful tool for hypertrophy and strength especially when you use it intentionally instead of treating it like a “lesser bench.”

Here are the big benefits.

👉 More stability = more chest tension

👉 Easier to train close to failure (safely)

👉 Very repeatable setup for progression

Also good grief I'm not sure combining with is a great plan; my thinking was my recovery days would just be recovery if I didn't alternate but let's just say I don't have a ton of explosive power left in my legs after squats and deadlifts. Anybody doing plyo and weightlifting? How's it working?
