You know, many years since the USB4 spec has been published, I've noticed a distinct LACK of PCIe upgrade cards... I thought that we'd finally have a universal Thunderbolt-like expansion card but alas.
The only one is this one I found literally today while doing a routine check (most results when I look for USB4 is USB 3.2 which isn't the same), and OF COURSE it's from SoNNeT! The same company I personally best know them for is their old PowerPC G3 and G4 upgrade modules for the PowerMacs way back when... So this seems very on-brand for them.
Do I need it? No, especially as I'm trying to internalise my drives in the next upgrade cycle for my workstation, but it still be neat to have! :floofDrool:

ShiftCam na CES 2026 pokazało rozwiązanie, które może być ostatecznym dyskiem dla mobilnych twórców. Planck Studio jest szybki, magnetyczny i – co najważniejsze – trudny do zgubienia.
MagSafe spotyka USB4
Nowy Planck Studio to rozwinięcie idei miniaturowych dysków SSD. Urządzenie magnetycznie przywiera do plecków iPhone’a (jak portfel MagSafe), co eliminuje problem „dyndających” na kablu napędów, które do tej pory trzeba było mocować taśmą lub specjalnymi klatkami.
Ale to nie jest zabawka. Dysk wspiera najnowszy standard USB4, oferując transfery rzędu 3700 MB/s. To prędkość, która znacznie przewyższa możliwości portu w iPhonie, ale docenimy ją po podłączeniu dysku do Maca, by zgrać materiał. Pojemności? Kosmiczne 4TB lub 8TB.
Zgubić 8TB danych? Nie z tym dyskiem
Największym wyróżnikiem – i czymś, co powinno stać się standardem w branży pro – jest wbudowana obsługa sieci lokalizacyjnych. ShiftCam zintegrował dysk z Apple Find My oraz Google Find Hub.
Scenariusz jest prosty: zostawiasz dysk z bezcennym materiałem w kawiarni lub na planie zdjęciowym. Zamiast paniki, wyciągasz telefon i widzisz dokładną lokalizację zguby na mapie. Dla profesjonalistów ta jedna funkcja może być warta ceny urządzenia.
Ekran prawdę Ci powie
Na obudowie znalazło się też miejsce na niewielki wyświetlacz OLED. Nie służy on do oglądania filmów, ale pełni funkcję techniczną: pokazuje w czasie rzeczywistym pozostałą ilość miejsca oraz aktualną prędkość transferu. Koniec z zgadywaniem, czy zmieścimy jeszcze jedno ujęcie.
Ceny dla profesjonalistów
Tanio nie jest, ale biorąc pod uwagę parametry, ceny wydają się uzasadnione:
- Wersja 4TB: 399 dolarów (ok. 1600 zł bez VAT).
- Wersja 8TB: 599 dolarów (ok. 2400 zł bez VAT).
Premiera zaplanowana jest na marzec 2026 roku.

Satechi USB4 NVMe SSD Pro – pierwsze testy [wideo]
Dzisiaj na warsztat bierzemy zewnętrzną obudowę na dysk SSD od Satechi w standardzie USB4. Producent deklaruje wsparcie transferów nawet do 3840 MB/s. Czy uda nam się osiągnąć takie wyniki na MacBook Pro M1 Pro z Thunderbolt 4? Sprawdzimy to.
W obudowie montuję jedyny dysk jaki miałem pod ręką – Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB – i poddaję go testom prędkości. Zobaczycie też, jak wygląda montaż (jest beznarzędziowy!) oraz to, co znajdziemy w środku, w tym ważny kontroler Asmedia ASM2464PD, który teoretycznie powinien świetnie dogadywać się z Macami.
Wyniki testów okazały się… zresztą zobaczcie sami, ale podpowiem, że prędkości zapisu i odczytu różniły się od oczekiwań.

Then I can get an egpu and have a better time running VMs... especially considering there is only a 610 integrated graphics and consumer gpus dont support gpu virtualization...

Fr, it’s quite impressive how performant my #iPhone 11 still is after upgrading to #iOS 26. Used/old model (but brand new) iPhones could be had for relatively cheap (vs worse quality/featured #Android phones), so it’s good to know that you could still recommend the 11, if they couldn’t get 12 or newer.
The whole ‘#Apple products are expensive shtick’ is outdated - you could get a #MacBook Air M1, brand new, for ~2.5k MYR or so. The other day, I even saw MacBook Air M2 (again, brand new) for ~3k MYR. These are incredibly powerful laptops with amazing screen and keyboard, a couple of #Thunderbolt/#USB4 ports, and a battery that lasts you a day if not more (I literally just charge my M1 once a week, on light use).
In comparison, my sister got some #Microsoft Surface laptop, on sale, for over 3k MYR and that shit is not even half as usable as the M1, does not even have a single Thunderbolt port (which was shocking to me), and has no ‘creature comforts’ either like an HDMI port - which was an issue, not having Thunderbolt.
