In the first episode of our second season, Megan shares the story of Fanny and Stella: two gender non-conforming young people from Victorian England who presented female (and sometimes male) while carousing the exciting streets of 1860s/70s London. That is, until their antics got them in hot water with the law in what would be one of the most significant trials in British queer history. In this first part of our two part episode we learn about their lives leading up to their arrest.

Tracy Africa Norman became a model in the 1970s and modelled in Italian Vogue. She lost modelling work when people found out she was trans, but she reinvented herself as a queen of the Manhattan ballroom scene. An inspiration to many, Tracy reclaimed her modelling career.

In this episode, Thomas takes us through the life and times of convicted swindler, #VictorBarker. From his time in Holloway Prison to the sideshows of Blackpool and beyond, Barker insisted on maintaining a male identity throughout his adult life despite often being described as a cross-dresser. This early-twentieth century trans-man was not an admirable character, but he was definitely an interesting one.

Next up for my honoring of important elders and icons for the Trans Day of Remembrance is Stormé DeLarverie. While Stormé didn't personally identify as anything, long time friends said that Stormé chose to "live their life as a black man" and would most likely be considered non-binary today. Either way, I see them as a trans-masculine icon. Even though Marsha is usually credited with "throwing the first brick" at Stonewall, many witnesses say that Stormé's fighting back against the cop's raid was what started the uprising. It is beyond doubt that Stormé was an amazing performer (usually billed as a drag king), but they were also a protector of our community.

🏳️‍⚧️Thank you Stormé, for your ineffable shine and support. Rest in power 🏳️‍⚧️✨💖
