Did I share this yet? One of the best movies ever and a great glimpse into Christianity and excesses of the ruling class. It's rough and not for the timid, based on historical fact.

2026 is off to a promising start in terms of #fantasy. So far, I like #TheTaintedCup, which at first glance mixes #SherlockHolmes with #AttackonTitan. I like the strange world and the fact that the reader is taken seriously so far, so no #TheDevils or adolescent #CriticalRole nonsense. #booksky

I don't know if I have a favourite #fantasy #book for 2025. But I know the worst one! I wanted to like #Abercrombie 's #TheDevils, the villains doing good exposition is still fine! Hell, this book was childish, full of crappy pseudo-jokes! I gave up! I don't care how many #bestoflists it appears on!

I recently finished #TheBladeItself by #JoeAbercrombie, and it lived up to the hype. For those that don't read fantasy, Abercrombie is one of the bigger names writing right now. I’m increasingly convinced that even if #SchwarzeWacht is not perfect, it still wipes the floor with #Abercrombie's #TheDevils. I’ve rarely come across such a rubbish book, even for #fantasy. I'm really glad that #SchwarzeWacht keeps catching me off guard & surprising me – without any pseudo-humour!

I never thought I'd be celebrating a German #historical #fantasy novel, but #SchwarzeWacht / #BlackWatch (?) by #RichardSchwartz offers an exciting plot, nice characters & an atmospheric narrative – without any childish silliness. It wipes the floor with #Abercrombie's #TheDevils – so far! #booksky

Hm, bin wohl extrem „pingelig“ geworden. Aktuelles Beispiel: #Abercrombie s #TheDevils - m.E. richtig beschissene (Dark) #Fantasy mit Abziehcharakteren und tell anstelle von show. Dagegen ist #DerReportderMagd der pure Wahnsinn, ein dystopisches Festmahl, das einem im Hals stecken bleibt. Krass!

My mistake, I should have given up on #Abercrombie and his repulsively crude, sloppily told #TheDevils earlier! #TheHandmaidsTale is oppressively fantastic but only in homeopathic doses. By chance I stumbled across #Kingfisher's #Nettle&Bone, so far wonderful fairytale-like, dark #fantasy. #booksky
