#SPARQL

2026-02-05

A paper of mine was published in the Journal of Open Humanities Data: "Developing a Data Model for Theatre Productions in a Wikibase Instance: A Case Study Approach" ☺️ 🎭

I developed a data model that can map #productions, #costumes, spatial settings, and interactive audience elements. Implemented in a #Wikibase instance, it enables #SPARQL queries on these elements of productions as well as roles, and casts.

You can read it here: doi.org/10.5334/johd.434

I just learned that there is such a thing as #wikidata, which is basically a database of all facts in the world and a database query language called #sparql to query it.
Wow!

RE: openbiblio.social/@awinkler/11

from the linked GitHub issue: "Here is a demo of QLever handling one trillion triples on a single commodity PC: qlever.dev/one-trillion . That is more than fifty times larger than the current Wikidata"

What is in #wikidata? The answer to this question on the Wikidata:Statistics page (wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Sta) hasn't been updated for a while. This #sparql query run in #qlever provides a snapshot of the current situation (it's not entirely identical as P31/P279* times out even in qlever but it conveys the idea): qlever.dev/wikidata/k9TJoh

Articles have the lion's share, paintings and manifestations of wirtten works are well represented, though.

There are many benefits when the inference rules are included in the knowledge graph. One benefit is the decoupling of data and application. It lowers the cost of integration and the cost of change. Another is the improved data governance.

A third one is the gain in flexibility

@eloquence

I made once this query for all candidates for the Dutch parliament that have a handle:

w.wiki/HYoa

Maybe I will see how to change the query so that it will list only the current Dutch 's that have a Mastodon account.

Similar things could be done for Twitter accounts. I've no idea how current the Twitter-handle info in wikidata is. I sometimes update Mastodon handles for Dutch politicians in wikidata.

yesterday evening work with @EvoMRI on the @wdscholia instance on Toolforge. We noted that our main instance only shows half of the results, only @wikidata 'main' part. The 'scholarly' articles part are no longer there. That day has been pending.

We seem very close. I wrote up a status 3 weeks ago: chem-bla-ics.linkedchemistry.i

For this week, plz use qlever.scholia.wiki/

We put a banner on the #toolforge instance

@jerven these owl:sameAs triples should now be live in the @wikipathways SPARQL endpoint (sparql.wikipathways.org/) and the PlantMetWiki endpoint (plantmetwiki.bioinformatics.nl/)

After a lot of hours and trial and error, I've managed to create a digital interactive version of the Down Survey map for County Kilkenny on #uMap: u.osmfr.org/m/1340327/ using #Wikidata. Many thanks to all the people who have created #SPARQL queries for me in the past - I was able to modify some of them for this purpose. It doesn't have all the parishes and all the castles, but I actually discovered some unrecorded (by the NMS) watermills (not included...) and castles along the way. 😇

RE: hachyderm.io/@LeafyEricScott/1

#SPARQL turned out to not be necessary for this project after all, thank goodness.

@jerven okay, rough estimate of the number of owl:sameAs links now in the @wikipathways RDF (part of the release on the 10th):

- 1250+ owl:sameAs to SwissLipids
- 5000+ owl:sameAs to @lipidmaps.bsky.social
- 1600+ owl:sameAs to @rhea-db.bsky.social
- 77k+ owl:sameAs to UniProtKB

(powered by @wikidata via their SPARQL)

@jerven I had not answered your question yet, and no patch needed, but just to answer it:

1. the original (theseus) code is here: github.com/wikipathways/GPML2R which is used for sparql.wikipathways.org/

2. the new libGPML-based code is here: github.com/egonw/org.pathvisio which is used for plantmetwiki.bioinformatics.nl/

new blog post: "Rescuing @wdscholia #2: getting closer" chem-bla-ics.linkedchemistry.i doi.org/10.59350/6t2qh-2f839

Replying to this post makes it show up in my blog.

we have moved closer to having the option to switch to a #QLever backend. Beta testers can assist by exploring the interim QLever-backed Scholia instance: qlever.scholia.wiki/
