Updated goals for the Harmon Wowshi W02 build and accountability post so I can't just drop the project:
- Found stepper motors that are small enough that I'm able to fit two in the reel-to-reel section! Should be able to program more intricate functions like FF, Rewind, Reverse, etc. They even have little gears that'll save me the trouble of designing a set screw into the belt pulleys.
- Will use 1/4" tape but unsure on tape heads at the moment... might try to scavenge some stereo heads from old decks with bad mechanics. At any rate it'll only play one side of a tape at a time which is fine.
- Buttons... Would really like something chunky to make up for a lack of mechanical transport but need to find a balance because there'll be quite a few of them.
- Going to revert back to a 4" speaker and see if I can get some bass extension going in the design. Probably requires a full re-work of that section.
- The reel platters are much more robust now - due to the positioning of the steppers they now extend toward the back of the case
Will post some pics of the recent design updates soon - been spending all of my time developing the tape section so not much movement on anything else. I *am* pretty stoked to have TPU filament now since I can use it for gaskets, belts, shock absorbers, etc.
Will take my time with this one since it is *not* going to be a cheap build... Expecting a few hundred in parts by the time it's all done
