I've just installed Cairo Dock in my SBC Raspberry Pi5, using pi-packages the Add/Remove software utility.

What a mess I created.

Cairo Dock could not work properly. The gfx output indicated that it rendered in a manner that Wayland does not like.
I could see the window borders of the Dock which are invisible on Xorg in MX-Linux. Cairo Dock collapsed and expanded horizontally when you moved the mouse over it, with none of the applets reacting properly. They did not spawn the programs they were representing

I then proceded with sudo apt install cairo-doc from bash, after removal in pi-packages.
All dependecies were easily installed, but the rendering of my beloved Cairo dock still failed, making it still unusuable, in Wayland on the Pi5 SBC with 8GiB RAM

I will investigate, but for now I can't get the gorgeous Cairo dock to easily work on Wayland on the SBC Raspberry Pi5

Managed to power off my Raspi4 by pulling the wrong cable.
Well, no big deal, right?

Yeah, well.. Raspi4 is up again, suddenly my monitoring alerts me. "Raspi4 down"

Huh?

Turns out, the #DHCP reservation in my #Fritzbox wasn't set for this #RaspberryPi.

TIL: My Fritzbox ignores the preferred IP setting my #Raspberry sends along with the DHCP-Request.

*sigh*

Another thing to figure out.

We regret to have to inform you, than LLM hardware farms have driven the prices of my beloved SBC series up again.

LLM are literally f#cking us over on all fronts.

I cant build my system with notebook APU 128GB DDR5 RAM and all other goodies anymore for a normal price.

CHeck out how DDR5 is unpayable now.

Now I have to fork over USD 60 extra for a new SBC just so I can at least have that extra machine to work with.

Today, despite my no-more-than-elementary #Linux skills , my POC is up-and-running:

I’ve been experiencing repeating issues in #HomeAssistant with devices not responding. It’s been manifesting in the system log as an error:

cp210x ttyUSB0: failed set request 0x12 status: -110

That’s Zigbee dongle. The workaround was to reboot the system, but I’ve changed it’s USB port and it seems to be gone.

The system is #RaspbianOS on #Raspberry Pi5. Pi is powered via PoE and it should have sufficient power budget, though it’s running of an nvme.2 and with USB hard drive, so who knows…

My kids can now enjoy a selection of french cartoons from the 80/90s that are constantly broadcasted from my RPi. 😆

For now the receiver is the VLC app on FireTV, but I'm already looking into options for the remaining HDMI port to be a dedicated receiver.
Maybe… a RPi Zero 2 W? 😆

Au fait, je continue ma quête d'amélioration du LMN-3.

Le LMN-3 c'est une station de travail audio sur la base d'un raspberry pi et du framework audio tracktion_engine https://www.tracktion.com/develop/tracktion-engine (qui lui utilise juce https://juce.com/) et un teensy pour la partie midi.

C'est un projet qui ressemble énormément à l'OP-1 de teenage engineering https://teenage.engineering/products/op-1 mais beaucoup moins cher, 2000€ pour l'OP-1 et autour de 200€ pour le LMN-3).
