DiscogsDienstag: Undinyx – Antarctica

Das Album, welches ich heute vorstelle, dürfte den treuen Zuhörenden vom GothDiscoInferno bekannt sein, ansonsten hat es leider wenig Aufmerksamkeit erlangt. Die Rede ist von „Antarctica“, dem zweiten Album der Hamburger Musikerin Laura Müller alias Undinyx. Laura ist außerdem Sängerin und Gitarristin der von mir sehr geschätzten Band Grundeis. Während sie dort düsteren Post-Punk mit Shoegaze-Anklängen macht, geht ihr Soloprojekt in Richtung Dark-Wave und Ethereal. In meiner Sammlung habe ich „Antarctica“ als Musikkassette, die ich nach einem Konzert am 26.11.2024 direkt bei Laura am Merch-Stand gekauft habe, ein Bandcamp-Downloadcode war auch dabei. Über das Konzert habe ich hier schon berichtet.

Undinyx schafft auf „Antarctica“ eine düstere, atmosphärische Klangwelt, in der Keyboards und Synthesizer die Herrschaft übernehmen, unterstützt von spärlichen Gitarren-Parts. Der Gesang ist verhallt und klagend, trägt damit in Verbindung mit den ebenfalls düsteren Texten zu der mystischen Stimmung des Albums bei. Ich kann gar keinen Song hervorheben, „Antartica“ ist gut in einem Stück zu hören.

Die Kassette ist auf 50 Exemplare limitiert und somit bereits ausverkauft, bei Bandcamp gibt es allerdings „Antarctica“ als digitales Album:

Laura ist bei ihrem Solo-Projekt nicht nur für Komposition, Interpretation und Recording selbst verantwortlich, sondern kümmert sich auch um das Artwork. Nur beim Mastering ihrer Songs läßt sie sich von Denis Wanic (Suir) unterstützen.

Das Debütalbum von Undinyx war übrigens selbstbetitelt und ist ebenfalls über Bandcamp erhältlich. Mittlerweile hat Laura Müller ein weiteres Soloprojekt gestartet. Mit Kobalin hat sie bisher den Song „Tief Fallen“ veröffentlicht, der in Richtung „Neue Neue Deutsche Welle“ geht, also flotten Post-Punk mit deutschen Texten.

Qué bueno es el nuevo disco de Nina Suárez, yo creo que esta chique la va a pegar con alguna canción, y va a sonar en todos lados, tiene mucho talento. Esta canción me gusta mucho, heredó la poesía de su madre.

This one is an obscure 80s UK anarcho-punk group who put out one LP on their own label then went on to other bands (like My Bloody Valentine).

Absolutely thumping, dark, gothic #postpunk .

Only three songs, but this is a case of quality over quantity.

This was the only thing this band ever released.
The record label that put it out, Clay Records, was an independent outfit from Stoke-On-Trent in England. The label put out other acts such as GBH, Discharge, and Play Dead.

I was really surprised to see nice copies of this record going for around $40-50 CAD now, seeing that it was something I bought from a used bin about a decade ago for $5.

Disappointed these dudes never did anything else. They were a pretty cool band.

So I decided on this EXCELLENT sounding bootleg of the band’s 1979 BBC sessions.

Killer set list here. And again… it SOUNDS killer. The fidelity is top-notch and it sounds like they’re in the room.

These white-covered Radio Broadcast releases have all sounded fantastic.

Man, were these guys incredible live. They are absolutely ON FIRE here.
