@dazo @juliesbits My #Pixma TS5500 works fine, scanner included... after I learned how to set it up and what components my #Linux needs. Except if I don't use it for prolonged time and it fails to reconnect with Wi-Fi Every. Single. Time.

The replacement gear came in & It works like a charm!

Unfortunately, while it goes through the motions, nothing actually prints on the paper. Previously the head had a lot of dried ink on it. I suspect there's dried ink inside somewhere.

Is there a good way to go about cleaning the printhead? Could I soak it in hot water or some cleaning solution?

Still absolutely hate the tiny 2 line angled lcd that requires you to be standing in front of it and the printer must be positioned at exactly hip height, or it is illegible. Spoilers, mine is on a shelf so every error requires I yank the thing out.

Yet those huge refillable tanks are worth a ton of squinting, shifting and bending

Curious if anyone happens to have a #Canon #Pixma #MG3620 that works/prints in #Linux? I extracted the files out of the canon deb pkg and believe they exist in the appropriate place now. First try printing caused a paper jam #rip. After retrieving the paper, all new jobs go to status "Stopped Filter Failed". Uncertain what the options are at this point.

Anyone familiar with #Canon #pixma power supply #ElectronicsRepair ? The #k30351 #adb0250620G labeled power supply should output 24 and 36 V, but it outputs 10,8 and 8V. The power supply IC NCP1236 is switching but only once every 3 milliseconds for one short pulse. Supply voltage for the SMPS IC is stable in the "happy" region acc. to the datasheet (~15V).

I already replaced the supply cap for the IC as the ESR was "high" (~5 Ohms). This was plugged in 24/7 for 10 years so that capacitor served a fair amount of current pulses.

I'll try to load the output to check if the feedback loop is actually closed and if it just regulates for the wrong output. Maybe the TL431 is unhappy. Another thing I'll try is to back-feed the output while off and check if there is output on the primary side of the optocoupler. Those tests should indicate if the SMPS IC is unhappy for some reason.

Diodes, fuses, transistors are ok and actually this is a relatively simple SMPS, no PFC, no fancy filters...

Dear Mastodon hivemind - cartridges for my Canon PIXMA MP240 printer are getting ever more expensive.

I tend to buy the PG-512 and CL-513 carts, but oof they be pricey now. And so many after-market 'compatibles' where I don't know whether I can trust them to work.

Has anyone had good experiences with those ink refill kits, that come with a little hand drill and syringes?

Just spent half an hour fighting with my basically-brand-new photo printer, thinking it was broken because it wouldn’t feed the 13x19” paper that it DEFINITELY supports.

…turns out I dropped some tiny plastic disc things in the paper feeder when re-doing the studio.

Close up your printer when not using it. Seems like an extra step, but it’s worth it.

Canon Sued for Disabling Scanning When Printers Run Out of Ink

Canon USA is on the receiving end of a class-action lawsuit that alleges that the company doesn't allow owners of certain printers to use the scan or fax functions if the device runs out of ink.

Bleeping Computer reports that Canon customer David Leacraft filed the lawsuit last Tuesday, alleging deceptive marketing and unjust enrichment by the camera and printer manufacturer.

Leacraft discovered that his "all-in-one" Canon printer Pixma MG6320 refused to scan or fax documents if there was no ink left in the printer. He argues that seeing as ink is not necessary for the device to perform scanning or faxing, those features should still be accessible even if the printer has run out of ink.

"Plaintiff Leacraft would not have purchased the device or would not have paid as much for it had he known that he would have to maintain ink in the device in order to scan documents," the complaint reads that

Leacraft is not the only dissatisfied Canon customer who has noticed this situation, as others have contacted the company about this same problem since at least 2016. The customers were then told by the customer support agents that ink cartridges must be installed in order to use all functions of the printer.

The complaint points out that although Canon advertises that its all-in-one printers include print, copy, and scan features, there is no warning that shows that ink is necessary to use these features.

With that in mind, the class-action lawsuit states that the company is deceiving customers into buying a product that "was designed to artificially and unethically introduce functional bottlenecks by tying them to ink levels," even though, in practical terms, the ink level is irrelevant to the other features of the devices.

There is no reason or technical basis for manufacturing the All-in-One Printers with an ink level detection function that causes the scanner to stop functioning when ink is low or empty. Canon designed the All-in-One Printers in such a way to require consumers to maintain ink in their devices regardless of whether they intend to print. The result is an increase in ink sales from which Canon obtains significant profits.

Leacraft has filed the lawsuit in the District Court for the Eastern District of New York and seeks at least $5,000,000 in awards, which excludes interest, fees, and litigation costs.
