The hand release pushups are easier to count over normal pushups, because the bottom position is better defined than the parallel position of the upper arms.

The only question is if on the bottom position if it suffices for the palms to leave the ground or do the fingers also have to. This puts a bit more strain on the fingers if the latter.

Not to talk about the inconveniences of being tall. The journey travelling between the top and bottom position just increased. The only thing that could reduce the distance is having a larger wasteline. Though this might not be convenient in the long run, since one will be moving more weight.

This test has a better alignment with the activities one will be doing.

Although they are all tests of endurance over various body regions, they give a pretty good baseline #fitness.

GORUCK's Baseline Functional Fitness Test consists of four events: 1 miler ruck run/shuffle, 2 min sandbag burpees with overhead toss, 200m suitcase carry, 2 min hand release pushups. Each event has prescribed equipment: for the 1 miler the total weight is defined by the strength level, for sandbag burpees only a sandbag is required, for suitcase carry it is sandbag plus ruck, for pushups no equipment. There are five levels of strength: heavy/pro, tough, basic, light, slick. Heavy/pro ruck weight is 45 lbs, sandbag weight 80 lbs, 1 miler weight 100 lbs. Tough ruck weight is 30 lbs, sandbag weight 60 lbs, 1 miler weight 80 lbs. Basic ruck weight is 20 lbs, sandbag weight 40 lbs, 1 miler weight 60 lbs. Light ruck weight is 10 lbs, sandbag weight 30 lbs, 1 miler weight 30 lbs. Slick ruck weight is 0 lbs, sandbag weight 20 lbs, 1 miler weight 20 lbs.

@DesRoin #physicaltraining and #fitness is, I believe, and has been for some time, essential for mental health as well, but it's often that it's either a person's complete focus or completely neglected. There's often very little balance.

But what's the point in a fit body in an untested mind, or a robust mind in a body that is deteriorating?

The brain is a physical object, tied, literally, to the state of the body. Why do so many neglect one or the other?
