I was a bit skeptical when after reading many reviews, I ordered this bag. I didn’t like how floppy it was. I went back and forth between this and a backpack for the Scotland trip, ultimately settling on the #PeakDesign bag. (Which performed beautifully, by the way.)

So this is the first trip I’ve used the #Domke bag on, and despite it not feeling like any other bag I’ve used I’m kind of sold on it. It fits my #FM3a, 50mm and 28-105 lenses, bottle of water, Mamiya 6, and more film than I am likely to shoot in a day with ease. Carrying it cross-body with the clasp connected feels pretty safe even in a crowded subway station. Thankfully it’s not raining on this trip (so far) but the waxed canvas is a nice touch for dealing with moisture.

I’m not loving the Peak Design MagSafe wallet. Contrary to the name, the design is not great if you put the phone and the wallet in your pocket. The magnetic flap opens 100% of the time when I take it out of my pocket.

That’s what I call poor design.

Just packed up the Peak Designs everyday sling 6l for return. Had high hopes - so many positive reviews. Honestly, I wonder if these people actually used it. So stiff I can barely open the front pocket, and only a completely bare ipad has a chance of getting into the pocket made for it. #peakdesign #photography

Looking on #peakdesign's page re: the roller, I see they have a strap configuration that I've never used (and, frankly, would interfere with using it as a backpack) - I guess I'll take a look at that for the next trip.

Somehow I had deluded myself into thinking that the carbon fiber trolley had two parts - the long part, and then a smaller extension at top, but I was clearly hallucinating...

Speaking of #peakdesign, just finished my first trip with my new Roller Pro from them. Most of the things, really like it.

But IMO they blew it with the height of the handles.

Putting an everyday backpack straight up, handles through the top loop like I've done with all my other roller bags I've used it with, it's about 2-3" too short for comfort.

It fits - barely, but not easy to slide on/off. Super frustrating on this trip. I don't like to put it 90° as stuff falls out in airport.

Update for the 3-4 of you that care! 🤣 After much consternation, I’ve packed my bags for 2 weeks in #Scotland. The #PeakDesign bag is a little heavier than I prefer, but with the capture clip it will be the most functional by far, as it will allow me to be hands-free to hold maps, get water, etc. There’s a handful of things in it (as opposed to in the other bag) because I want them easily accessible on the plane…once we get to a hotel I can lighten it considerably by shifting them, which will also leave more room for fulfilling the role of a normal traveling day pack.

Ended up deciding on this combo:
- #NikonZ5ii, 28-120 f/4
- #YashicaMAT124, med yellow filter
- 15 rolls #KodakTriX
- 1 roll #IlfordDelta3200, primarily as more of an excuse to ask for hand checks.

I predict I will either run out of film or come back with just over half exposed. I was very tempted to go all in with film taking a combination of 35mm and 120, but then I was at the mercy of CT scanners, and wouldn’t have the flexibility of the Z5ii’s low light capabilities. So I plan on taking film shots of the things that are the most striking, and using digital for backups of those as well as general travel type snapshots.

The #REI ruckpack has been my travel bag of choice for the last several international trips we’ve been on. The hip belt is substantial (more in line with a “backpacking” backpack) and there is a zippered flap that covers it as well as the shoulder straps so that when you’re dealing with something like an overhead compartment you don’t have all these straps dangling about. We’ve gotten good at “travel laundry” so there’s usually a decent bit of space left over for purchases while abroad - for instance I’m confident I could easily fit two 750mL bottles of Islay Whisky, assuming Edinburgh has a duty-free shop… 🤔

If anyone has traveled with any of the above and has any last minute tips or suggestions, please let me know!
