Big news is ice. I was in the PO after work and a woman walked by and said, "If you're driving out HPR, there's black ice by the lake."
Ugh. She said it was like she was in real life Mario Kart!
And that was before it really froze last night.
Sigh.
3:15PM: I'm watching one heck of a snow squall out in the parking lot.
This snow storm looks like it might be for reals.

We're under a winter weather advisory from 6PM tonight to 4PM tomorrow.
There will be rain, there will be snow....
..perhaps up to 4" or so,.
I didn't intend to rhyme that last bit, but then decided to lean into it. 😉

It was a bit rainy in Bellevue, WA, but mainly cold with occasional clouds.
We had heard the snow hadn't really accumulated here and what did was washed away by rain.

6:00AM: 20F, fair. Under a cold weather advisory until 9AM.
One more sunny, cold day before snow/rain comes to Sitka. Temps will remain below freezing at night which, to me, equals a nightmare.

Luckily, we'll be somewhere else for the duration!

It got gusty last night but for once, we weren't worried a bit! That stress of "Will a tree fall?" being gone is a great gift to ourselves.
The forecast is calling for 15F as a low tonight....then snow likely Thursday, Thursday night & Friday.
But we'll be in Bellevue, WA, where it will be warmer and thus: rain/snow likely.
Gotta love February.

It's gusting around 40 right now (that northerly outflow is flowing!) But guess what? I don't care about the gusts 'cause those trees are gone!!
High of 35 today. Brrr! They are calling for a low of 14F Tuesday night.
We'll feel it 'cause we'll be at the airport at 4:30AM Wed. morning for our flight to WA.
6:30AM: 37F, overcast.
There's a lot going on in SE AK as winter makes its return. It seems Juneau will be getting the brunt of nasty weather but all the inner channels are under a freezing spray warning beginning Sunday night.
Fit for neither man nor beast!
Sitka will have chances of rain, snow, sun, and the surety of colder weather.
In other news, the big trees are down (this is just one), and man, what a view we have now!

We won the rain lottery. The most in the SE with 1.36".
Winter is on its way back. By mid-week there could be lows in the upper teens.
We're heading out to the Wintergrass bluegrass festival in Bellevue, WA, on Thursday, so hopefully we'll miss the worst of it!

No big wind yet here on shore, but I wouldn't want to be out front in a boat or ship:

The little-bitty wind came through...a much bigger one is coming.
We're under a High Wind Watch for basically 24 hours starting late today through Thursday eve.
In other news, we've contracted to have our 2 big trees taken down. (See pic - that's the neighbor's house. Ours is behind the trees.) They might be able to do it today.
$10,000 now (OUCH!!!) compared to the possibility of catastrophic loss of life/property?
Priceless.

We have a punchy little storm coming through this afternoon into tomorrow. A gale to storm force low will batter the SE. Sitka is under a high wind advisory from 8 tonight until 2AM tomorrow.
At least this one will be quick!

Sitka had over an inch of rain yesterday.
Finally, my feelings are born out!

We may or may not have showers today and tonight and it will be kinda mostly cloudy, except when it isn't.
The big news is a gale-force low coming Tuesday which will lead into a possible storm force low sweeping through late Wed into Thursday.
Everyone will be affected in some way, from Skagway on down to Ketchikan.
It's our shared experience that makes us bond here in the SE.
By the way, Sitka set another record high on Friday: 54F, beat the old record of 53F set in 1995.
