I kinda just tend to assume that everyone has a copy of VirtualBox, #pcem, and a multi-TB stash of ISOs from winworldpc.com on their NAS... but I'm occasionally reminded that this is not the case. Actually I need a solution that runs on Linux too as I’ll be moving this machine off Win11 at some point :/
Edit: #PCem is on Linux but on this laptop I may struggle to run a P166 😭 #VMware is apparently available on #Linux and others have said that it’s more stable, but I don’t know what the driver situation is like; every VM vendor has abandoned 9x support 😢 — my #Win95 VM uses the #VirtualBox 6.0 drivers as those were the last to support 9x
My #Win95 VM has become very unstable on this new machine (AMD Ryzen 7450U) I'll probably have to switch to #PCem, but that's so hard to setup and run :(
Searching for tech specs like chipset and cpu for my childhood #386 so I can emulate it in #86box or #pcem.
I remember it had 2MB RAM and upgraded to 3. Came with 3.5" floppy and 50MB HDD. #MSDOS 5.0 and Win3.1.
Any information about the company P.C.U ("Personal Computer Upgrade") maybe helpful in this search.

I'm used to DOSBox-X (since it does high-level emulation of DOS and gets to the programs and games right away), but I think what's nice about #86Box is that it's capable of emulating several PC makes and models accurately, right down to the clock speed.

Ok, I have now spent a stupid amount of time trying to install OS/2 on an emulator. The best progress so far has been using #pcem. I've actually gotten as far as partitioning the drive.
If this works and I can build pcem on it, I'll move the disk image over to my #mangopi mq-pro and see how it performs.

OK, after almost a whole day of trial and error, I finally managed to run PCem v17 and Windows 98 SE without issues in the windows device manager. It's still not perfect, but I am happy I got this far.
Since my personal MS-DOS and Amiga collection is nearing its completion, I am going to start looking at 32-bit systems now, running Windows 9x/NT.
As a very first step, I am checking out all kinds of Windows 98 SE setup discs and system configurations. Here's Windows 98 SE OEM incl. Plus! pack. Running on a virtual Pentium 233MHz system.
I must say, this gives me much less of a retro vibe and it feels almost too modern, compared to Windows 3.1x or Workbench 3.x. But, yeah... there were so many great games!
