Congratulations! #Containers are an excellent technology, useful for many things as you've discovered.

Be warned, though, that #Docker is not necessarily the best system for containers. It is IMO too dependent on a centralised unaccountable registry of images.

Look into #PodMan https://podman.io/ for a more accountable, open, #FreeSoftware approach to containers. It's designed for the #OpenContainerInitiative so it's compatible with your Docker configuration files.

#Kaniko seems to be injecting a non OCI compliant layer into image builds, which breaks my ability to use those images with #podman

Yesterday the #OCI (#OpenContainerInitiative) community call was quite an energetic one.
We're on the horizon of a next release. And rightfully, we're looking at ways to stay unobtrusive in fetching content from registries, but to make it helpful to client tooling _and_ registry owners/implementors for discovering the capabilities of a registry.
For years as container registry #API's have evolved, the standard process was to just try and endpoint and inspect status codes, which vary by vendor
