One UI 8.0 feature showcase: Google Finance in Now Bar

One UI 8.0 brings new features and other enhancements to your phone and your tablet, including changes to the Now Bar and the adaptive lock screen clock. One of the changes that were made to One UI 8.0 was the Google Finance integration in the Now Bar.

However, just like Sports for Google, you’ll need to configure your watchlist to watch your favorite stocks, such as Dow Jones and NASDAQ. You can configure this feature by going to Settings > Lock Screen > Now Bar > Google Finance > Google Finance settings.

After that, if there are any closing stock prices, you should see the Now Bar getting filled with those stock price difference percentages, just like below:

If you then open the Now Bar, or if you scrolled down the notification bar, you can see more details of the stock prices.

You can also see the same information by tapping on the small pill that reveals the first market’s name as found here:

If you then tap on the detailed information about the stock prices, you’ll be taken to the Google Finance webpage that shows you even more details:

Please note that such information doesn’t appear every day, and it appears only when there’s a significant change in stock information.

One UI 8.5's release schedule is a bit chaotic, but some details have surfaced! 🌀📱

According to insider kro_roe, the stable update might arrive late January or in February. Meanwhile, Samsung officially states that One UI 8.5 will launch with the Galaxy S26 series at the February 25 Unpacked event, with a broader rollout linked to the March 11 launch date, gradually reaching more Galaxy models afterward.

Samsung updates the list of supported devices in February 2026 SMR!

Samsung has re-evaluated the supported devices list as of this month as of today, and you can see the updated list in full here. We have run a comparison of supported models, and the results are now in:

The following devices have been downgraded from Monthly to Quarterly to the list:

  • Monthly security patches (to Quarterly)
    • Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra (last updated to One UI 8.0 on October 6th, 2025, in the UAE, with One UI 8.5 expected)
    • Galaxy S21 FE 5G (last updated to One UI 8.0 on October 28th, 2025, in the UAE, with One UI 8.5 expected)

This means that the above devices’ update schedule frequency has been degraded from Monthly to Quarterly, which means that security updates will now arrive quarterly. This also affects the Galaxy S22 flagship series that got its support downgraded this month.

The following devices have been removed from the list:

  • Quarterly security patches
    • Galaxy S21 5G, Galaxy S21+ 5G, Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G (last update is One UI 7.0 released on May 8th, 2025, in the UAE)
  • Biannual Security patches
    • Galaxy A03 (last update is One UI Core 5.1 released on May 17th, 2023, in the UAE)
    • Galaxy Tab A8 (last update is One UI 6.1 released on September 18th, 2024, in the UAE)

This means that the above Galaxy phones won’t be able to get any more security patches. This also marks the end of the era for the Galaxy S21 flagship phones that were unveiled in Galaxy Unpacked on January 14th, 2021.

We expect that the upcoming Galaxy S26 series gets seven years of security updates and seven generations of operating system upgrades, provided that monthly updates are expected due to the flagship nature of the device.

Samsung’s One UI 8.5 Beta 4 is turning out to be quite significant! 🔥📱

The forthcoming Galaxy S25 beta version is anticipated to feature an upgraded 6.6.98 kernel, a new Direct Voicemail function akin to Apple’s Live Voicemail, along with enhancements in performance, smoothness, and security.

Samsung devices are still stuck in last year’s Google Play System Update

Last year, Google released the Google Play System Update for all devices across all the months, but the issue of getting it up to date started when Samsung’s One UI 8 started rolling out. This has caused users to get stuck in the last update they’ve installed, and those who factory reset the device got stuck in the July 2025 version.

For instance, Galaxy Tab S8 users who updated to One UI 8 and did all the necessary Google Play System Updates, such as our device, got stuck in October 2025, as you can see here:

There were many reports that confirm that users who updated to Android 16 are stuck in either July 2025 or the latest version being applied to their devices, and you can see some of the reports listed here:

One person asked Samsung India via Samsung Members for an inquiry about the Google Play System Update not being updated in Samsung devices, and they said “it is intended behaviour that Google Play system update (GPSU) doesn’t work in the some Samsung Android 15 devices. It is blocked by Samsung’s policy and consultation with Google. The blocked update will be resumed soon at the right time per device.”

There was an article posted online by heise online stating that they have contacted Samsung about the matter, and they responded: “When introducing new devices or major One UI updates, Samsung exclusively deploys software that the company has verified. Samsung has temporarily suspended the distribution of Google updates to avoid potential issues.” This means that it’s a controlled process that makes sure that all Samsung devices perform smoothly, even after Google Play system updates.

It was planned to include the Google Play system update on January 2026, but we have seen some older Samsung devices that got the November 2025 Google Play system update, such as the Galaxy S10, S20, and S21 devices that are not running Android 16. However, those who are running Android 16 are still stuck.

As a result, some people have their Google Play system updates rolled back, and you can see one of the reports here: The Google Play system update rolled back.

We hope that, eventually, Samsung and Google work together to fix this issue, ensuring that Galaxy users be able to update to the latest Google Play System Update. The first GPSU that will land to Android 16 will be explained in a separate article once it gets released.

Galaxy Watch6 receives a new January 2026 update!

Samsung has started rolling out a new software update that upgrades the security patch level to January 1st, 2026, to the Galaxy Watch6 series, starting from Korea. The flagship watches will be updated to the following versions:

  • Galaxy Watch6 40mm (BT and Cellular, SM-R930/R935x): CZA1
  • Galaxy Watch6 44mm (BT and Cellular, SM-R940/R945x): CZA1
  • Galaxy Watch6 Classic 40mm (BT and Cellular, SM-R950/R955x): CZA1
  • Galaxy Watch6 Classic 44mm (BT and Cellular, SM-R960/R965x): CZA1

You can now update your smartwatch, but if you still didn’t receive any update, you’ll have to wait for a few days as this rollout is a gradual rollout that starts from Korea. You can periodically check for updates to see if this update has reached your device. We recommend that you update your watch manager in your phone to ensure compatibility with the latest software.

To update your watch, follow these steps:

  • With your phone
    1. Open Galaxy Wearable
    2. Select your watch
    3. Open Watch settings
    4. Navigate to Software Update
    5. Tap Download and Install
    6. Wait until the update shows up, then press Download
    7. Wait until the update gets downloaded and copied to your watch, then press Install
  • With your watch
    1. Open Settings
    2. Navigate to Software update
    3. Tap Download and Install
    4. Wait until the update shows up, then press Download
    5. Wait until it gets downloaded to your watch, then press Install

In an event that something went wrong with copying the update, disconnect your phone from your watch by turning Bluetooth off or by disconnecting it through Galaxy Wearable, then try again from your watch. Make sure to turn Wi-Fi on in your watch to download the update faster.

Make sure that both your phone and your watch are charged before performing the update, and that your internet connection is stable. Never interrupt the update process, or there could be problems later. The update process may take a few minutes to finish, and if it appears to be stuck, just wait for more minutes.

Galaxy Buds app update contains more Buds4 official images

Samsung is preparing the Galaxy Buds4 to be released this year to replace the Galaxy Buds3. Today, the company has pushed the Galaxy Buds app update for One UI 8 devices, and it’s under version 8.5.10.900. This update is available for devices running One UI 8 and for Galaxy S25 devices running One UI 8.5 Beta. This is a major version hop from 8.0 to 8.5, indicating readiness for One UI 8.5.

We have dissected the APK file as we are looking for Galaxy Buds4 related files, and we have found several files that point to the upcoming Galaxy Buds4 series, as well as codenames Bach for the Galaxy Buds4 Pro and Handel for the normal Galaxy Buds4 variant. There are too many drawables for the Galaxy Buds4, as well as some of the related files.

Tips for two devices

First of all, we have pictures of tips for the Galaxy Buds4 and Buds4 Pro for various features, including 360 audio recording and adaptive noise control. This showcases a feature for the upcoming Galaxy Buds4 device. Here are the pictures of the tips for different features that are similar (Galaxy Buds4 Pro at the left, and Galaxy Buds4 at the right):

For reference, here are the raw files (light mode) of the tips and their file names:

Features for Buds4 Pro

Additionally, there are some of the features that were designed for the Galaxy Buds4 Pro, such as customizing your listening experience for different apps, finding your phone using the earbuds case, and starting the Interpreter.

Galaxy Buds4 and Buds4 Pro renders

The Galaxy Buds app seems to have revealed possible color combinations for the Buds4 Pro (White, Black, and Apricot) and the Buds4 (White and Black) and in their high quality, which matches earlier leaks that we’ve seen.

For reference, here are the raw files (light mode) of the tips and their file names:

  • home_image_bach_apricot.png
  • home_image_bach_black.png
  • home_image_bach_white.png

Misc

We have seen some additional references to the Galaxy Buds4, including the battery capacity and some of the strings related to the upcoming device. A look at integers.xml file reveals something rather interesting about the Buds4 battery life in both the base and the Pro variants.

 <integer name="buds4_battery_rated_capacity">42</integer> <integer name="buds4_battery_typical_capacity">45</integer> <integer name="buds4pro_battery_rated_capacity">57</integer> <integer name="buds4pro_battery_typical_capacity">61</integer>

This tells us two things:

  • Galaxy Buds4’s battery rated capacity is 42 mAh, while the typical capacity is 45 mAh, in comparison with the Galaxy Buds3 that has 48 mAh.
  • Galaxy Buds4 Pro’s battery rated capacity is 57 mAh, while the typical capacity is 61 mAh, in comparison with the Galaxy Buds3 Pro that has 53 mAh.

In the strings.xml file that contains all application strings, we’ve only seen two strings that refer to Galaxy Buds4:

 <string name="buds4_app_name">Galaxy Buds4</string> <string name="buds4pro_app_name">Galaxy Buds4 Pro</string>

For the Routines, we found several references to the upcoming Galaxy Buds4 and Buds4 Pro routine actions in a file called routine_actions_ui85.xml:
