Check out my game #SudokuForever on #GooglePlay! It started as a personal project and somehow gained popularity. It's been out and updated over the last 10 years though downloads have fallen a bit. I still like it and try to keep it relevant.

If you like Sudoku, give it a go! Boosts are appreciated!

A lot of apps have a "please review this app in #GooglePlay" pop-up.

I'm always like "maybe later". (I'm afraid the ratings are shared via Google+ or something. Back in the day I had to explain my mom what #Emacs is. It was weird.)

Now, #Fedilab gave me the pop-up again, and I was like "well maybe I *should* start actually reviewing open source apps, maybe I should finally hit the review button".
...but then the pop-up just vanished on its own.

Ghh grmbl fffh. 😑

crazy conspiracy theory of the week:

the actual reason wants to block installing of apps that have not "verified author" in is so you can't install and similar to watch without ads, they don't allow NewPipe in and are probably very upset by 3rd party stores allowing it

We’ve been tracking a cluster of RDGA‑generated domains involved in distributing fake app‑store landing pages. These domains are consistently registered through Namecheap and protected by Cloudflare, which the operators use to obscure origin infrastructure and rapidly cycle through fresh front‑end domains.

The sites impersonate Google Play or iTunes, based on their device’s user‑agent, presenting users with pages that look and feel legitimate. Instead of real apps, the pages deliver Progressive Web Applications (PWAs) that persist on the device and enable ongoing notification abuse.

PWAs are a chrome application which plays cross platform, windows, linux, android, iOS and gets added as an icon on the desktop ofevery device.

Once installed, the PWA triggers a redirection chain through one or more intermediary domains before sending users to online casinos, adult content, or other low‑quality destinations. Because many of these casinos operate from regions where online gambling is restricted or illegal, the operators continually replace the final‑stage domains. This use of RDGA and PWAs allows them to evade regional blocking, reputation systems, and automated detection controls by rotating infrastructure at scale and keeping their persistence to the user devices.

fwiw, most large scale gambling operations like these are not simply illegal in the regions they target... they are scams and often connected to other major crimes, including human trafficking.

yaxim 0.9.9c is live on Google Play.

~Major~ ~Minor~ Only change: added support for Android 15 in order to be allowed onto Google Play.

Change in privacy policy: Google insists on yaxim collecting email addresses (which it does not) because XMPP addresses look like email addresses (which they do).

Looks like I sneaked in a bug as well, that impairs the self-ping timers. Investigation is ongoing.

Samsung devices are still stuck in last year’s Google Play System Update

Last year, Google released the Google Play System Update for all devices across all the months, but the issue of getting it up to date started when Samsung’s One UI 8 started rolling out. This has caused users to get stuck in the last update they’ve installed, and those who factory reset the device got stuck in the July 2025 version.

For instance, Galaxy Tab S8 users who updated to One UI 8 and did all the necessary Google Play System Updates, such as our device, got stuck in October 2025, as you can see here:

There were many reports that confirm that users who updated to Android 16 are stuck in either July 2025 or the latest version being applied to their devices, and you can see some of the reports listed here:

One person asked Samsung India via Samsung Members for an inquiry about the Google Play System Update not being updated in Samsung devices, and they said “it is intended behaviour that Google Play system update (GPSU) doesn’t work in the some Samsung Android 15 devices. It is blocked by Samsung’s policy and consultation with Google. The blocked update will be resumed soon at the right time per device.”

There was an article posted online by heise online stating that they have contacted Samsung about the matter, and they responded: “When introducing new devices or major One UI updates, Samsung exclusively deploys software that the company has verified. Samsung has temporarily suspended the distribution of Google updates to avoid potential issues.” This means that it’s a controlled process that makes sure that all Samsung devices perform smoothly, even after Google Play system updates.

It was planned to include the Google Play system update on January 2026, but we have seen some older Samsung devices that got the November 2025 Google Play system update, such as the Galaxy S10, S20, and S21 devices that are not running Android 16. However, those who are running Android 16 are still stuck.

As a result, some people have their Google Play system updates rolled back, and you can see one of the reports here: The Google Play system update rolled back.

We hope that, eventually, Samsung and Google work together to fix this issue, ensuring that Galaxy users be able to update to the latest Google Play System Update. The first GPSU that will land to Android 16 will be explained in a separate article once it gets released.
