Except unfortunately, *I* did know.

As a child I tried so hard not to believe it. How could those who “love” you, treat one that way?

So I took all that blame and turned it towards myself.

Hence, why many of those who taught me that lesson, still walk the earth today.

A digitally created scene featuring a surreal, dreamlike atmosphere that depicts a misty forest at twilight, framed by the silhouettes of two large, gnarled trees arching in from the left and right.

In the background, a giant full moon glows softly through a turquoise-green haze, casting an ethereal light over the landscape. A single bird is silhouetted in flight near the moon, adding a sense of quiet solitude. At the center of the image, bold white text reads, “As a child, I never imagined that all of the real monsters in the world would be humans.”

This image evokes a sense of childhood wonder evolved into adult reflection, contrasting the innocence of youthful imagination with the complexities and disappointments of real life. Although no artist or author is credited for the image, similar sentiments have been expressed by Cat Winters in her work “In the Shadow of Blackbirds.”
